New Outlook Working Offline Phase 1: Rolled Out with Limitations
1/12/2025 Update: Microsoft has released several offline functionalities for Phase 1. Watch the video for details. Video: https://youtu.be/qzHfnlfhuEw?si=1hlWaykwl00ojPp0
All users will have access to the "first set" of Working Offline capabilities for the New Outlook for Windows.
This feature will allow you to VIEW your mail, calendar events, and contacts even when you're not connected to the internet since they will be stored on your device. You can still perform important actions on your mail, such as flagging, moving, deleting, and composing new messages, to ensure your productivity remains uninterrupted even when you're offline at the airport or home office.

- KristofferJohanssonCopper ContributorAugust 7 now and I "have" this "feature", or core functionality as we called it for decades...
By "have" I mean, that it is enabled, I can adjust days, I can go offline and have access, BUT, I can't open new Outlook when offline. Read that again please: Outlook can't be opened offline, but throws an error that server is unavailable.
Great work Microsoft!! Great work.- andy2475Copper Contributor
As per almost every comment above, this really is astonishingly poor. What is the point of an application if it does nothing more than a web interface? What is the point of being able to locally store data if you are not able to access it? This really is functionality 101 and it is mind bending that users have been complaining about this for a year and it is not fixed.

andy2475 It is hard to know what to say. We are years into the development of a critical application, and you can't repoen it if it closes (or Windows crashes) when you are offline! Incredible.
You only have to look at the comments on the Windows store to see how well New Oulook is going down.

this is totally ridiculous. I have now lost all my email addresses and cannot access anything on my computers. I'm trying to run a business here and this stupid rollout has effectively shut us down. I'm beyond outraged. I cannot get hold of anyone one on the help line - what are we actually paying for. so angry its beyond words.
- katrielfCopper ContributorI've got offline now!

@email address removed for privacy reasons Its still not working July 29 2024. I had to get it because I couldn't get gmail to work on my old version only to discover it won't open if offline even though offline mode is selected.
how could a company as big as Microsoft make such a hash of software implementation!
- CorwenBrass Contributor
Teresa_Cyrusand bobwdennis I can see why they didn't release it sooner. It doesn't work. A smart move. However, I'm not sure if releasing broken functionality eight months later then promised is particularly smart.
Feels like there is something seriously wrong with this software. I wonder when they'll stop digging. The years are ticking by...- BalazsBCopper Contributor
Corwen I tried the New Outlook today as well.
I guess you got this error message when you tried to start Outlook while you were offline:
On the Switch from working offline to online - Microsoft Support page there is a notice stating that Outlook must be running before you go offline.
At this time, to open or restart new Outlook, you need a connection to the internet. Offline access described in this article is only supported when the app is already running and then goes offline. Opening and restarting the app while offline is planned and will be available in a future update.
It works this way indeed. Is it good enough? I say no...

ITeresa_Cyrus I'm sure there are many people for whom the "New Outlook"
works great. I made the mistake of trying it twice. UGH what a mistake.
WHY? For the simple fact you stated.Delay after delay after delay after delay after delay releasing offline mode.
I am one of those users who needs OFFLINE mode.
I really wish Microsoft would stop pushing me to "Try Outlook" until they have a mature product.

Last Day of May.
Still no Offline.
😞
June?
- riccardocvlCopper ContributorIt's the 19th of May, and there's still no offline support. It seems like such a straightforward and essential feature to include. It's quite disappointing. Perhaps Microsoft wants users to consider switching to Apple.
- CorwenBrass ContributorWhen they soft-launched launched the new Outlook for Mac back in, I think, 2021, it came with offline functionality. And it now has profiles, which are nowhere to be found on either of the Windows Outlook clients.
See Microsoft's latest IMAP update as of May 2, 2024.
What’s new in Outlook for personal use – May 2024 - Microsoft Community Hub
In part, it says, "Recently, we finalized changes to help make sure that customers who had IMAP accounts can use the new Outlook for Windows. In addition, we are currently rolling out support for POP accounts and anticipate being done with that rollout in the coming weeks."#traccreations4e 5/4/2024

Teresa_Cyrus So.... It's 10 May and, at least for me, not offline funcionality in Outlook.
Could this be fundamental atchtecture issue?
- CorwenBrass ContributorYipee. Support for POP accounts in a few weeks. Unless, of course, they push back the offline functionality again...

Teresa_CyrusMicrosoft should cancel this project as it is a fiasco in every way. It is an obvious way to cut development costs at the expense of software quality and end users.
- nosbusCopper ContributorI simply dont understand why this “new outlook”, is being mass tested across paying customers. The product is alpha code at best, and still does not even have a clear timetable for feature parity and they are offering to migrate users to it.
