Corrupted VT+ transaction files

We are a small accounting company using VT+ Transaction on a local drive synchronized with OneDrive for backup and file storage. A few days ago when we tried to open the application, we suddenly started receiving the following error messages: Run Time Error 0 and Run Time Error 440, and the program does not start. According to VT+ support the program files are corrupted and the data can only be restored up to the year 2022, as the more recent backups are also affected. Somehow the system is overriding our backups, which makes the latest ones unusable. Any advice what could cause that and how to resolve the issue. Thanks

Based on your description, this appears to be a OneDrive sync conflict/corruption scenario specifically affecting VT+ Transaction files.

The issue stems from OneDrive sync corruption overwriting your backups, rendering recent data unusable.

    Below is a structured solution:

    Immediate Actions

    A. Halt OneDrive Sync to Prevent Further Data Loss

    Pause Syncing:

Right-click the OneDrive icon in the system tray → Pause Syncing → 2 hours.

This stops OneDrive from overwriting healthy backups with corrupted files.

    B. Restore from OneDrive Version History

OneDrive retains file versions for 30 days (default). Use this to recover pre-corruption data:

    B1. Access Version History:

Go to OneDrive online → Navigate to your VT+ Transaction folder.

    Right-click the corrupted file/folder → Version History.

    B2. Identify a Healthy Backup:

Look for a version dated before the errors started (e.g., a backup from 3–5 days ago).

Select Restore to overwrite the corrupted local file.

    C. Local Recovery (If OneDrive Fails)

    System Restore:

Press Win + S → Type Create Restore Point → System Restore.

Select a restore point dated before the corruption.

    Check Disk Health:

Open Command Prompt as Admin → Run:

    chkdsk /f /r

Reboot if prompted. This fixes disk errors causing file corruption.

    Fix VT+ Transaction Application

    A. Reinstall the Software

    Backup Corrupted Files (Pre-Caution):

Copy the entire VT+ Transaction folder to an external drive.

    Uninstall:

Go to Settings → Apps → Apps & Features → Uninstall VT+ Transaction.

    Delete Residual Files:

    Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\ or C:\Program Files\ → Delete the VT+ Transaction folder.

    Reinstall:

Download the latest installer from VT+ Support → Install and patch.

    B. Restore Data Post-Reinstall

Use the restored backup from Step 1B (OneDrive Version History) or Step 1C (System Restore).

    Prevent Future Corruption

    A. Exclude VT+ Files from OneDrive Sync

    Stop Real-Time Sync Conflicts:

    Right-click OneDrive → Settings → Account → Choose Folders.

Uncheck the VT+ Transaction folder to exclude it from sync.

    B. Implement a Robust Backup Strategy

    Manual Backups:

Daily: Copy VT+ Transaction data to an external SSD/USB.

    Weekly: Burn to DVD/Blu-ray (archival-grade).

    Cloud Backup (Non-Syncing):

Use Backblaze or IDrive (sets backup frequency, avoids real-time overwrite).

    Network-Attached Storage (NAS):

Deploy a local NAS (e.g., Synology) with RAID-1 for redundancy.

    Advanced Checks

    A. Antivirus/Firewall Interference

Temporarily disable antivirus (e.g., Windows Defender, Norton):

Go to Settings → Update & Security → Windows Security → Virus & Threat Protection → Manage Settings.

                        Disable Real-Time Protection → Test VT+.

    B. File Permissions

Ensure VT+ has full control over its folder:

                        Right-click the VT+ Transaction folder → Properties → Security → Edit.

Grant Full Control to your user account.

    Contact VT+ Support

Provide these details to escalate the issue:

    Error Logs:

                     Press Win + R → Type %appdata% → Navigate to VT+ Transaction\Logs.

                      Share the latest .log file.

    Corruption Pattern:

Explain that backups post-2022 are corrupted, suggesting a sync loop.

    Summary of Steps

Pause OneDrive and restore via version history.

Reinstall VT+ after clearing residual files.

Exclude VT+ from OneDrive sync and adopt 3-2-1 backup (3 copies, 2 media, 1 offsite).

Escalate to VT+ with logs if unresolved.

This resolves the immediate corruption and prevents recurrence by decoupling backups from real-time sync. Let me know if you need clarification!
