Very bad microphone quality (Linux)
Hi guys,
I'm experiencing very bad input quality in video / voice calls.
I've tested multiple devices but problem remains.
In other apps (Discord, Audacity) my microphone quality is excellent.
I'm using MS Teams client for Linux.
My system is Pop!_OS 20.04 LTS 64-bit.
Is anyone experiencing the same issues? Does anyone have solution for this?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

frenkybojler Same issue. Just had a first meeting, but had to resort to text chat. Overall this would be a good port of Teams for Linux, if this one bug is solved.
My system:
Mint x64 20.1 on a Dell Latitude
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7200U CPU @ 2.50GHz
16G ram
ALC3246 Analog sound device

Not a fix, but posting a workaround that will hopefully help.
For me teams for linux will mic will only work correctly if the audio volume is set to exactly 20% for the mic input in pulse audio. No idea why, but it works for me and appears to be working for some others.
Hope this helps.

Same problem here. Everything works excellent (pro microphone!!!) on Zoom, Jitsi or for recording audio / video. On Teams there is always a lot of noise and voice is poorly understandable. On Skype it sounds slightly better, but still a far cry from what to expect from an excellent Large Diaphragm Microphone and as demonstrated by other applications.

Same issue here frenkybojler
I found the echo service made available to test the setup (under settings) is very useful. Everyone has been complaining about the quality of my mic. Before I tried the echo test, I could never figure out what the sound what so bad in Teams vs the crystal clear mike everywhere else. It looks like I'm speaking near an airplane reactor. Using some sound filters seems to make it worse.
I wish I knew a solution or workaround. I tried to work Teams on Chromium (because hardware acceleration is better there compared to Chrome), but Teams refuses to run there.
It's too bad there is no native solution on Linux.
Hi frenkybojler
I had the same issue on Windows. Using Teams on Google Chrome Incognito fixed the problem.

Hello adilyoosuf,
thank you for your advice.
I'm already using browser version of Teams, just because of the issue, but in the browser, there are other problems, for example screen share of other users in meetings is not synced properly and sometimes it get stuck and I have to leave and re-enter the meeting.
Never the less, this is not solution how to solve this issue on Linux client.
Welcome frenkybojler
Yes the browser version of Teams has issues too. Your best option is to report this issue via uservoice for Teams.
