Microsoft Teams Freezes PC
I have observed that the Microsoft Teams desktop app freezes my HP laptop. This is the 3rd experience on this laptop and the laptop is newly purchased, running on Windows 10 Home edition, has a RAM of 4.00GB (3.42 usable) and an AMD Raedeon Graphics CPU 2.30GHz. I was wondering if the problem occurs because of the client file or the laptop specs. I tried solving the problem by deleting the Teams files from the AppData folder and the Temp files then reinstalling the client file to no avail. I’ve monitored the app’s performance on Task Manager while on Teams calls and it shows a CPU usage of 100% and freezes the PC completely, but the audio of the calls is unaffected.
Please urgently advise as this is affecting my schoolwork and class attendance. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Michelle Duru

Sounds like laptop specs. Have you tried calls with camera off? Using background picture/blur or together more consumes more processor power and that Graphics combined with only 4GB of memory isn't a very powerful combination. It will result using your disk for more memory which usually adds up on freezing the system.
You can also try Teams settings "Disable GPU hardware acceleration" to see if it helps.
- Willjoe2442Brass ContributorStep 1: Open Microsoft Teams Settings and go to the Apps menu. Step 2: Select Apps & features and find Microsoft Teams from the list. Step 3: Click on more button and select Advanced options. Step 4: Select the Reset button and Windows will reset the Microsoft Teams app.

I have this problem since forever and on several different computers. I literally just bought a beast of a lenovo (64GB ram xeon processor, etc) and with essentially nothing installed and teams still bring the whole system to a grinding halt. Even after shutting it down, the environment can be unstable until I restart. I have no pending updates or anything like that, this system is pristine.

Regards koshel 9953119320 - Sharanam_ShahCopper ContributorI have an 8 GB RAM Laptop along with a 2 GB Graphic Card and AMD Ryzen 3 CPU.I am facing the same issue in between calls.Already tried reinstalling it and also disabled the GPU Hardware Acceleration.Still facing the same issue.Though I didn't face this on my old laptop with Intel HD 4000
- bon08ifyCopper ContributorHello, I had this issue for over 3 months after receiving a break-fix machine. IT at my company closed the ticket (4) times stating it was a Windows issue or in setting (going into hibernation but it wouldn’t wake up). They also made it sound like I was over-exaggerating; I wanted it fixed!!
This last tech finally was insistent with HP and found out it was a known problem with with the video card.
He swapped out the video card earlier this week, and I have not had any further issues.
I feel your pain. When it freezes there is no notification and everything is lost. - pankaj_kumar205Copper Contributorplease try

pankaj_kumar205 this did not help as the link you send just relates to deleting temp files. The issue is clearly during teams being active.

I have a Dell laptop with an i7 CPU with 16gb RAM and an Nvidia graphics card, Nvidia drivers up to date, enough spare disk space, everything up to date in Windows Update, GPU option off in Teams, etc. I get a weird type of freezing - I can't switch between apps with my mouse, can't select anything in another window although I can Alt Tab between them. Only way to get out of it is a reboot or press Control Alt Delete (thanks Bill Gates and MSDOS:-), select Task Manager, then my mouse works, kill Teams and voila, all works again!
- Shaurya2205Brass ContributorHi Michelle,
I am having the same problem, the only thing I recommend is Deleting mcirosft teams and free up space. Also, I know this is ##. But they are just not improving it Teams, Just there " Issues." I recommend you also check for updates and go in S mode and reset your device. It does help performance.
I know resetting your device can be frustrating, but it does help a lot.
I hope this helps.
