I have observed that the Microsoft Teams desktop app freezes my HP laptop. This is the 3rd experience on this laptop and the laptop is newly purchased, running on Windows 10 Home edition, has a RAM of...

Sounds like laptop specs. Have you tried calls with camera off? Using background picture/blur or together more consumes more processor power and that Graphics combined with only 4GB of memory isn't a very powerful combination. It will result using your disk for more memory which usually adds up on freezing the system.
You can also try Teams settings "Disable GPU hardware acceleration" to see if it helps.

I have a new rog zephyrus with 32 Ram and when on a call on teams app my pc completely freezes doesn't even let me use task manager. Took it to get mended and apparently everything is working fine, they re-installed bios. But again today it froze again, I can still hear and use sound. One time it also beeped when crashing, never had any other problems with the pc Very strange, while using teams browser it doesn't happen though.. Vesa Nopanen
- SeanP44Feb 03, 2022Copper ContributorI too have been plagued with my machine completely freezing during Teams calls.
Fairly high-spec Lenovo X1 Carbon (6th Gen), i5-8350, 16GB RAM (40-60% free), Jabra 65 Evolve2 headset, Windows 10 Enterprise. Windows fully Updated. Lenovo System fully updated (including recent BIOS flashes).
I can work all day - many Office Apps / Browsing / Outlook etc. etc.
Usually I get reports of "your sound is breaking up..." followed by "Oh, there he goes".
With or without Video (I've now taken to not having my video on most of the time)...
Everything goes Choppy ... Then the whole laptop freezes. I have to wait patiently 2-3 minutes before Teams closes... I can't do anything - switch apps, run Task Manager (Ctrl-alt-del) etc.
Happens whether I've recently re-booted or not.- tomm910Feb 04, 2022Copper ContributorThank you, I'm thinking its probably a problem with teams but I don't understand why it doesn't happen on my colleagues computers. I have resolved the problem by using teams on a browser instead of the Application (not as handy but doable).

- AishwaryaDesai22Jul 10, 2021Copper ContributorHi Vesa, I have purchased new HP laptop with Ryzen 3, 8GB RAM 1TB HDD, Windows 10 . Still I'm facing issue of laptop getting freeze while using Microsoft Teams desktop app on my HP laptop. Could you please help me with this
- Vesa NopanenJul 10, 2021MVPI am sorry to hear that. Generally your computer should be fast enough to run Teams. Due to HDD make sure you have all Windows updates etc run in before using other apps. Heavy use of hard drive can slow a computer very easily.
However it should not freeze totally even when doing updates.
What about a web client? Any issues with that?
Earlier there was a reply about a HP computer and a video card. Have you checked that your video card drivers are up to date and everything is good there?
Unfortunately I don't have any new tricks to give you - this thread has already mentioned hardware acceleration and others.
If your computer is a new one perhaps HP support could help? Or your organization's IT?
The Teams client V2 is in the making by Microsoft but it will be a while before it emerges. It comes out first integrated with Windows 11 and supporting consumer/personal accounts. https://myteamsday.com/2021/06/28/teams-v2/

Vesa Nopanen, Hello,
On Microsoft teams, it is glitching a lot, it is kicking me out of my meetings to. Also, It is slowing down my laptop even though I have tried everything I can.
Can you please take a look on it as it is affecting my meetings.
Kindest regards,
- MichelleDuruSep 01, 2020Copper ContributorThank you Vesa for the quick response. Also, do you have any idea if there would be an update to accommodate PC’s with such specs?

MichelleDuru I know Microsoft is improving Teams performance all the time, but I don't think there is a silver bullet for this one - instead the improvements seem to happen with small steps.
Looking at Teams specs it seems that basically 8GB memory is needed for online meetings. 4GB is mentioned for 1:1 calls. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/hardware-requirements-for-the-teams-app
What you can try:
- close off all unnecessary apps to release memory
- Turn off incoming video in your laptop as well as keep your camera turned off.
- make sure that this applies to all programs that are run during the startup. There might be some manufacturer's applications that are unnecessary. At the same time there are usually required apps as well. You can check these by opening Task manager and checking the Startup-tab (if you don't see tabs click open more details at the Task manager's bottom)
- let the computer boot well in advance and make sure every update is applied
- If you can select: choose maximum performance mode instead of longer battery life
- keep your computer plugged in
If none of that helps: try attending the meeting via your mobile phone Teams - at least for the video parts while keeping the share visible on your laptop.
