Contact list no longer available in new Teams version
When new teams go live, can I keep using the old version?
The new version only has a chat list and no contact list.
I regularly use my contact list to determine if someone is in the office.
If I must use the new teams, can someone suggest a workaround?

"People" brought back all my contact lists created in old teams under "Categories".
I think this partially works. But when I tried to "Add Contacts" button, I am unable add new person in "Categories".
Anyone tried this with success?
I was under impression that there is no other way than adding contacts to favorites & that's not a viable solution.
- tk093Iron ContributorYep, once I add a contact, I find that contact and click the ... and add it to the category I want.
Hi All,
Outlook and Teams Contact Syncing will be available to General Availability in January 2024. Microsoft is rolling out functionality allowing users to create Contacts in Teams, instantly updating Outlook. However, I found several bugs while editing or deleting a Teams-Contact.
Follow this thread, New Outlook & Teams Instant Contact Syncing Inconsistencies - Microsoft Community Hub, for details.

And now I've gone down the rabbit hole of trying to at least get the People app to show ALL of our people. Apparently, it's bringing up my Contacts list that I went through the trouble of entering in manually but I need to get a company-wide directory list to sync into it, instead... so all of our end-users can utilize this. We currently have the Spark (Openfire) app running on all computers in the company but, since the higher-ups want us to embrace Teams, that may be going away. Huge sigh... it's a great app which works SO well - shows a full list of users and whether they're active or not... and we can message a group of people or all the people... more sighing.
But... I have no idea how to get a company directly to sync into the Teams People list automatically. I'm searching and clicking on links from links... and finally had to close a bunch of browser tabs so my head wasn't spinning any longer. Reaching the point of stopping ... but then I'm not making progress in trying to make this function at all.
- hps_steveBrass ContributorI found another forum that looks to be viewed and responded to by Microsoft directly. I think this thread isn't being noticed.
I'm going to sound like a youtuber, but can you all please visit https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/idea/c920329a-d19a-ee11-a81c-000d3a02ba69 and UPVOTE, SHARE AND COMMENT.- accountmbCopper ContributorDone! Thanks for sharing.
Hi Dianne_NZ ,
Try to click on "Calls" tab on the left panel and you should be able to see "View Contacts" on the top right.
Hope it helps 🙂

KengSeong99 that takes you to the new "People" app which does not include presence, so doesn't fit the requirements.

I’m not saying this isn’t a real pain vs the old Contacts List (I truly miss it), but Presence is available within the People App - at least on an individual basis, you just have to dig deeper.
It’s not perfect – and I hope they update the People App in the future to bring back what has been lost in terms of functionality from what was in the old Contacts List.
- Open People App
- Click a category, then click a name from your list of contacts.
- Click Contact
- presence status shows in the box below

Does anyone know if this is /actually/ on the roadmap? I have half our work-force refusing to use new MSTeams because we can't see a list of contacts with presence.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=Microsoft%20Teams&searchterms=People
I don't see anything on the above roadmap related to this issue.
I do see the Teams Admin portal say that New Teams will be the default from March, and will be forced on users at that time. I'm going to have a bunch of very angry people when that happens if this isn't resolved by then.
I feel like this comment section is being ignored, can anyone with a serious user-base and some clout with an MS account manager get some traction? - JanRGCopper ContributorPlease please MS, include the 'Contacts' - now - in the new teams. Please do not make an 'update' to an essential working tool a less working tool. It's clear that the majority of Mac users are refraining to 'upgrade' to your new version of teams when 'Contacts' are not part. Are you listening to the feedback in these forums?

The new People App doesn't show status information so you don't know if they online, off or even still with the company. This info would be helpful especially for external contacts.

I primarily use the Contacts to arrange frequently used contacts into various groups
as a workaround to the fact that the Chat tab only allows pin of 15 people/groups max.
In this way I can easily find favourite people in the various divisions I deal with.
This is a definite blocker on moving to new teams.- SamanthaLDBrass ContributorI use contacts regularly. I keep the people I am in touch with the most sorted into groups. I use this feature daily. So far I can't see anything that has been improved with the New Teams. Several features that I use have now disappeared and those that haven't disappeared have become clunky.
- Mr_Trust_ABrass ContributorHello,
In the new Teams, you no longer can access Contacts from Chat. Instead, use the new People app. Pin it to your left navigation pane by selecting the (...) menu, right-click People, and then select Pin.
Contacts menu - This includes Group contacts and Favorite Contacts are no longer available. Calls feature does not includes a list of contacts anymore.
Thanks,- Smitty814Brass ContributorYes, but it no longer shows the user's status.
- DeWaynePrattCopper ContributorYet people continuously suggest it, it drives me nuts... it's not the same people, it doesn't solve the desire to have a quick status check mechanism.
