Contact list no longer available in new Teams version
When new teams go live, can I keep using the old version?
The new version only has a chat list and no contact list.
I regularly use my contact list to determine if someone is in the office.
If I must use the new teams, can someone suggest a workaround?

The People app in Teams is pretty worthless as it does not show the user's status in the contact list and you have to now select each group on the left to display the contacts on the right. Defeats the purpose. I can just use Outlook to view this same data.
- accountmbCopper ContributorAn upgrade should enhance existing features rather than removing crucial functionalities. Integrating the established Contacts functionality into the "New" Teams would ensure a seamless transition and maintain the efficiency that users rely on. Thank you for considering this enhancement.
- BSusPCopper ContributorI have same issue.
I tried to stick with old version to have that function of 'contacts' in chat.
Today, looks like my organization installed new version and I am forced to switch to new version, so I can't select 'contacts' from chat.
Please take it back.- gregc63Brass Contributor
BSusP You should be able to close it by right clicking the systray icon and then start Microsoft Teams Classic from the start menu. I've been fighting that for a couple weeks.
Also, you may need to do it twice before the classic version will start.
They're really trying to ram the new version down our throats, and they still haven't fixed the contacts list issue that everyone is bitching about.- BSusPCopper ContributorI did. And I am trying to keep old version so far.
You are right, there were several ways new version is pushing me to use it; new version promotion or notification of 'company IT installed new one'...

contacts is now available in the People app in teams. This also shows all the data you previously entered so no need to repeat setup.- gregc63Brass Contributor
Yes, but it does not show their status or give you the ability to expand the group in the left pane.
Pretty useless

Dianne_NZ I mainly use Teams because of the Contacts feature, and I keep it as my default view. Without Contacts, I no longer see the reason to use Teams. The features I love are:
- Status visibility
- Adding or deleting contacts to different groups
- Option to notifications when a contact becomes available
- Immediate access to chat or screen sharing with available contacts
This is a very powerful tool that should be enhanced rather than eliminated. If anything, I suggest that Contacts and Chats have their own icons rather than having to toggle between the two.

" I suggest that Contacts and Chats have their own icons rather than having to toggle between the two. "
I agree with you 200%... it was like that a long time ago... another modification that does not make any sense.
- MartinPare74Copper ContributorWhy did Microsoft remove a basic option like this...? This proves that application makers don't really use Teams...
I'm going to run it with the old version as long as it's available... or the contact option comes back.
Really disappointed...- DeWaynePrattCopper ContributorI swapped back over to the trial once since posting, which was weeks ago, then swapped right back to the production version. there's just no other simple way to check the status of a group of people to determine who to contact.
- accountmbCopper ContributorI use "contacts" all the time. The workarounds mentioned are not as useful as the original "contacts" . I'm switching back to the previous version until this feature is included.

I found it! Its no longer under chats, but under Calls. it doesn't show their status, which sucks, but at least the list is still there
Calls > View Contacts
Once you get to this page you can pin People to your side bar, so you wont have to go looking for all contacts again.

People is a good app, but it doesn't show people's status - is it to much ask for both 🙂
- DeWaynePrattCopper ContributorOf course the list is still there, it's still in outlook and if you roll back... that's 70% of the importance.
It's the easy look at the status, as you mention being missing, that is the other 70% of the entire importance. - Smitty814Brass ContributorThe People feature is fine, unfortunately grouping is more difficult (ie. creating folders for each department). The loss of their status is the biggest detriment for me. It used to be a quick glance in the department to see who's here. Now you must click on each user to see.

Dianne_NZ I stopped using New Teams for this very reason. I have the Contacts list categorized so I know who's from which department, it helps tremendously in big company. I'm not sure which idiot dev decided to remove this feature, but I'm sure a lot of you feel the same way. Worse decision ever!

HowieQ how did you go back to the old version? I have looked through the settings and haven't found that option

- spacedyemeerkatCopper ContributorWell... this is all rather silly. Had to revert to the 'old' version this morning because of the missing contacts list.
