Company portal says rooted device but it's not - Android

Hi everyone,

We came across a situation where one of our Android user is not able to access Outlook and Teams due to rooted device. We configured only App protection (MAM) policy in Intune and blocked access from Jailbroken/rooted devices. Only the MAM policy as been applied on the device and the device is not enrolled with Intune.  So far, we have followed below troubleshooting,

  1. Rejoined the device again, however after sometime, the error will be appeared again.
  2. Check whether the device is rooted or not (Go to Settings > About phone > Status Information > Phone Status). Phone status says official. I believe this means not a rooted device.

Below is the error message from the company portal

Device Status in Azure AD (Not enroll with Intune)

I would appreciate if anyone can help me whether I have anything else try out before I create a support case with Microsoft.

Thanks,

Dilan

dilanmic   I am in the UK but recently visited China. While I was there my phone had the same message and wouldn't let me open Teams. Still had the issue once back in the UK. I had to shutdown and restart my phone and Teams was working ok again.

I just updated the Intune Company Portal app through playstore and the issue was resolved. No factory reset required.

I am facing the same issue.

I started using Samsung S23FE a month back. and from last week I am getting this error and not able to use outlook and teams.

I have travelled from India to Sweden. And I cannot do a factory reset as I will loose access to few apps where first login is based on location.

So any other solution apart from factory reset?

I also have the same issue saying I am using a rooted devise, which the apps was working fine until recent updates of Android and now I am getting the same message for all my company related app (Teams, Condeco, & Microsoft outlook).

Anyone has a solution without factory reset the phone? (and yes I have also tried restarting and shutting down my phone)

    Thank you!

I know it's already a long time ago but I thought this might be a good place to document what helped me...

      • Uninstall the Company Portal App
      • Restart the Phone
      • Open a company managed app like Teams
      • Teams will ask you to reinstall the Company Portal App, do so

That worked for me and was a quick fix compared to resetting the phone ;-)
