Is it possible to move the Search Box in Outlook to another position ?
Hello,
We found that the Search Box was moved into the title bar of our desktop Outlook 365. Is it possible to change its position ?
Cheers
Nope. Although they've gone through several iterations on this, so it might change in the future.

Zidong_NIE Our school district just moved to Office365 ProPlus 2008, and I REALLY dislike the search box above the ribbon also.
- raj_117Copper ContributorExactly I was trying to figure out, how would I move my search bar down. However I couldn’t able to, then I found this article. The earlier option was really nice, it was very easy to search and track the emails. Now it is consuming a lot of time to search each and every email.

it is really a disaster!!! i shift my outlook on this Monday morning , and found it definitely would destroy my whole week - searching email almost every hour !!!!
if you say position is something you have to get used to , then the auto drop list is the end of the search - it cover all the tool bars !!! what a design !!!!
MS - please bring it back to me !

Firstly I agree this is an absolutely terrible location for a search bar.
A few things I don't like:
- My webcam comes down over the search box, so I can't see what I'm typing
- There's no dynamic search i.e. it doesn't pull up results as I type, I have to press enter to search
- You can't drag the box around to a location you prefer
- WORST OF ALL - when it autosuggests searches the dropdown falls over all the search icons in the main ribbon (subfolders/current mailbox/filetype/Has Attachments) etc. so you can't choose them without coming out of search!
This is an absolutely terrible design and whoever came up with it should be instantly dismissed.
Having said that, I have found a solution of sorts...
Using Outlook Options, or a quick way, just right click on the command ribbon/toolbar at the top an choose "Customise the Ribbon..."
Then click on Quick Access Toolbar in the left Menu.
Then add a bunch of random stuff to the Quick Access Toolbar.
Each button you add will shift the search box a little to the right. If you add enough shortcuts to the QAT, then the Search Box will shift enough to the right so that when you use it any dropdowns will clear the right side of your inbox and also your buttons will now be visible.
Very frustrating but the above workaround makes it just about tolerable.
Hope this helps!

jbtparsons thanks for your answer. It would appear to me that no one from Microsoft gives a shit or is even reading this thread or others like it.
- DaveyleeCopper ContributorNot only is the search bar badly placed, it's also wider than the actual clickable space - meaning that it often takes me a number of tries before I am able to type my search.
- RickG2Brass ContributorThank you! The new search is terrible. I suppose I could live with the location (that has its own issues) but the basic functionality is also terrible..

Zidong_NIEI agree the location of this Search box is malfunctioning. When you click on the search bar, it covers its own buttons in the Ribbon below. Many in my organization are inquiring how to fix this, they can't search From and To options, because the search bar itself hides this when it expands. I hope this is fixed soon because executives with high traffic inboxes use these options daily.

Zidong_NIE , @all,
as a temporary workaround, I added some search buttons to the Quick Access Toolbar (in my case I added 5 buttons that cover 95 % of my search options - as shown in the video) and I moved it below the ribbon. this way, when I need to run an email search (as an example):
- I select the inbox or sent folder
- I click the buttons, one by one and I type my search keys (you can see that once I click on a search button, the Search bar becomes active, meaning you can type on it at that moment
- the good thing is that the mouse pointer can stay on the Quick Access Toolbar while I type the keys on the top search bar, so you can add additional search options with minimal mouse movement. This way I am almost back to the same search speed I had before this useless interface change. I just need to use this so often that my movements become mechanical again
I hope the short video explains how it works

Emilio_Gra that's great! Thanks for sharing, that's a nice workaround I would never have thought of.
Any idea how to get the default "Search In" = "All Outlook Items" rather than just the "Current Mailbox?"

keames thank you !
the default search results are in the Outlook Option \ Search Options box (see attached screenshot)
- mirfan180Copper ContributorHey ,its very frustrating to search any particular person or looking for an attachment involved in an email. This new search box location is a time consuming Pernille-Eskebo need to reconsider to provide the option for relocating it.

Zidong_NIE apparently i came to try to fix the problem but found it to be annoying but i've found a work around.
once you're at the search bar, hit Esc, it will stop the auto fill, which covers the search function's refine features.
hope this helps everyone!=)
- PPerkinsBrass ContributorThanks @dshsu . This wasn't my initial problem but seems most of the responses had issues with that part of it.

another one annoying with this change
Have they ever used the search combined with from, has attachment, etc?
Let it to the user to set it where they want it (above the emails for me)!
