PowerPoint Copilot currently only supports work/school accounts. Word files in the personal version of OneDrive need to be manually downloaded, edited, and then re-uploaded to sync.

Have you tried a personal Microsoft 365 subscription plus Copilot Pro? I believe that would change the picture relative to what you’re describing.
