Comcast email transition to Yahoo

So here is my problem and I have been battling this for 5 days now and Xfinity and Yahoo support keep striking out. I can access my account just fine in Outlook Classic. If I slide the slide over to the new Outlook nothing gets transferred or setup. If I try and add my account manually using an app password it gets to a screen where it states syncing with one drive then I get a screen where it fails and states I need a App Password. I have put in the password multiple times and it seems there is issue is with syncing the mail with one drive in the new Outlook.

I ended up formatting my hard drive and reinstalling everything then setting up outlook classic and then switching to the new outlook it then popped up a yahoo permission page and after that everything seems to be working.

Ah, sounds like a frustrating issue! It could be related to the new Outlook trying to sync with OneDrive when it's not needed for email accounts. You might want to try turning off OneDrive syncing temporarily or disable the "Sync with OneDrive" option during setup. Also, double-check your app password—sometimes resetting it and using the new one can help. If that doesn't work, try removing the account from the new Outlook and adding it again from scratch. Hope that clears it up!

Yeah, the new Outlook can be picky with Comcast accounts. What worked for me was skipping the automatic setup — go to Advanced Setup → IMAP, and enter the settings manually:

    • Incoming: imap.comcast.net (port 993, SSL)
    • Outgoing: smtp.comcast.net (port 587, TLS)

Then use your Xfinity app password, not your regular one. Also, make sure the “Sync with OneDrive” toggle is off during setup, that’s what causes the weird error. Once it connects, you can turn syncing back on if needed.

Thank you. I will stay with classic for now as I had MS tech support remote in yesterday and he finally gave up after trying everything I have for several days and told me to try to set it up again in 24hrs :) It is sad that two big companies set up a transition but have got it messed up :(

  • See whether below can help:

    1. Use Outlook Classic
    •    Since it works reliably with Yahoo’s app password, stick with it until Microsoft and Yahoo resolve the sync issue.
    •    You can disable the “Try the new Outlook” toggle to stay in Classic mode.
    2. Try Adding the Account via IMAP in New Outlook (Advanced Setup)
    •    Go to New Outlook > Add Account > Advanced Setup > IMAP
    •    Use these settings:
o    Incoming server: imap.mail.yahoo.com, Port: 993, SSL: Yes
o    Outgoing server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com, Port: 465 or 587, SSL: Yes
o    Username: your full Comcast.net email
o    Password: Yahoo app password (not your regular password)
    3. Generate a Fresh App Password in Yahoo
    •    Go to your Yahoo account security settings
    •    Generate a new app password specifically for Outlook
    •    Use this new password when setting up the account
    4. Avoid OAuth Setup for Now
    •    The new Outlook tries to use OAuth for Yahoo, which may not be fully supported for Comcast.net aliases.
    •    Stick to manual IMAP setup with app password until OAuth integration is stabilized.

I managed to get all my email folders with the emails using Mozilla Thunderbird. I have tried everything using Outlook Classic as the New Outlook just flat out refuses to talk to Yahoo servers. In Classic I can download everything, but the folders are not where they belong etc. If I organize them on the server or in Outlook classic on the next send receive and update folders it goes back to how they were before i sorted them. Thunderbird plays nice and downloads and syncs everything as I have arranged it and it stays the same on Yahoo. So for some reason Xfinity/Comcast must have jumped the gun etc. as Yahoo is no way ready for this.
