Chat logs from Office online suite
Hi everyone!
I was wondering if the chat functionnality embbeded in Office Online is based on Skype (by curiosity) and if there's logs we can get from it (main concern here) ? Also, if there's logs, where can we get them from? (eDiscovery?)
Thanks in advance ! Also don't hesitate to tell me if this question is better to be asked in another group as i'm kinda new here.

It is based on Skype for Business per this announcement - Office Online—chat with your co-editors in real-time.
This thread had some insights on Skype compliance but maybe some other members will chip in as well. This answer involves enabling Conversation History and also the option of In-Place Hold. There is nothing out of the box that has exactly what you are after, as far as I am aware.

I've nevertheless spotted from the first article you've quotted that this chat rely on the "same technology as Skype for Business". So i deduce that it's not the same core O365 Skype for Business we're using for the usual chat but rather a specific one. Maybe the second link you've shared doesn't apply to this chat, or maybe it does. Can someone remove any doubts concerning this point?- Cian AllnerSilver Contributor
Unless someone knows for sure, I'd suggest opening a service request and putting this to Microsoft directly. That might be the only way to know definitely in this case. This thread talks about in general how some of these compliance capabilities are lacking in SfB.
