PL-100: Microsoft Power Platform App Maker -- WILL BE RETIRING END OF JUNE!
Microsoft Power Platform app makers have new opportunities to demonstrate skills in specific scenarios relevant to the work that they do every day, such as creating and managing automated processes with Power Automate; canvas apps with Power Apps; and model-driven apps with Power Apps and Dataverse with our new Applied Skills credentials. These modular 1-Day ILT courses teaching relevant skills will be available for ILT, that can be combined as desired.
As a result, effective June 30th, 2024, the following will be retired:
- Microsoft Certified: Power Platform App Maker Associate
- Exam PL-100: Microsoft Power Platform App Maker.
- PL-100: Microsoft Power Platform App Maker
Microsoft Power Platform Applied Skills launching February 12th, 2024
- PL-7001: Create and Manage Canvas Apps with Power Apps
- PL-7002: Create and Manage Automated Processes by using Power Automate
- PL-7003: Create and Manage Model-Driven Apps with Power Apps and Dataverse
Please reach out if you have any questions.
Thank you!

- MarianaG1285Copper ContributorHi,
This is not ideal for some of us. Do you know if a new certification will substitute PL-100? I'm studying to pass this exam but now I feel like it's a bit of a waste..- GretchenLaBelle
Microsoft
We are changing the skills validation experience and the credential to the Microsoft Applied Skills for the skills that are measured in PL-100; however, that does not mean that taking the certification is a waste of time. Achieving the certification is still valuable, and it will remain on your transcript (and anywhere you share it such as LinkedIn or your resume/CV) after the certification is retired. The retirement simply means that moving forward after June 30, 2024 people will use the Microsoft Applied Skills to validate and credential their skills at this level.
After achieving PL-100 OR the Microsoft Applied Skills, you can continue your learner journey and achieve the next milestone of PL-200 Power Platform Functional Consultant or PL-400 Power Platform Developer. Demand for people with Power Platform skills is ever increasing, and achieving all of these credentials is very worthwhile. - vladcatrinescuCopper ContributorThis will be replaced by three Applied Skills which cover most of the content the exam did. I talk about it in a video over here > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwSFhfwCi_0
- Ashique07Copper ContributorPlease do not retire Microsoft Power Platform App Maker PL-100. I passed this certification a couple of days ago. A lot of my colleagues also passed this certification this year. It will be a waste of our time and money. You could run the PL-100 certification and the Applied Skills in parallel. But retiring PL-100 really doesnβt make any sense especially when Power Platform is such a growing field.

The information in this article is not true. The certification page has no retirement date and I confirmed with a moderator in the below Q&A post that the certification is not planned to be retired.

AdrianC1 The exam page has been updated today to include the retirement date.
Unfortunately, the reply you got on the Learn forum is wrong.

GretchenLaBelle Can you further support with this? Thank you!

Will people who have already completed all the applied skills tests mentioned, like myself, be able to go ahead to the PL-200 exam now (before June) or do we have to wait until after June for the PL-100 to expire and MS to officially adjust the learning path?

None of the PL exams have prerequisites; so you can take each independently. You do not need to take PL-100 in order to take PL-200. The two exams represent two target roles. PL-100 targets the maker role, and PL-200 the Functional Consultant role.- HAZZSTXMSCopper ContributorThanks for the clarification.

For those of us with the Microsoft Certified: Power Platform App Maker Associate certification, will there be any way to get credit for this?
I literally got my certification on Dec 7, 2023. Had I known this would be retired, I would have chosen another path.
I was planning to get my Microsoft Power Platform Solution Architect Expert certification by taking the PL-600 exam, will I have to worry that this will affect my progress?

See my response to Schwaigy the certification is still active on your transcript for up to two years. The PL-600 does not require PL-100 as prerequisite. You have the skills you have attained, and this retirement will not impact your progress towards PL-600.

agree with Schwaigy!! I sat PL-100 a few months ago, cost me $350NZD and studied really hard for that exam. Bit of a waste.

It's definitely not a waste to have taken this certification. You gained the skills, and you validated them through the certification. You have the credential and it will stay on your transcript for up to two years after it is retired. Retiring this credential only impacts people who have NOT taken it yet. You are not impacted by the retirement.

Hello Mindy_Rosenthal
Thanks for this information about the end of PL-100 π
But is there a Microsoft Certification voucher (for the PL-200 or PL-400 for example) or some compensation for the people that passed the certified PL-100 exam this year ? π€
A certification valuable for only 6 month... it's a little bit frustrating π
Thanks in advance and have a nice day

It's important to distinguish between the certification retirement and it expiring on your transcript. You still have the certification, and it is active on your transcript until it expires. You can show you've got the skills to anyone interested!
