Factory Reset Windows 10 without user intervention
I've looked for this answer online and have come across the "systemreset -factoryreset" command which works, but it comes up with the prompt asking if I want to keep my files or remove everything, I want to remove everything, but without the prompt. We are not doing this from any pre-exiting images, and our laptops are running the pre-loaded Windows 10 Pro install, we are just using the in-built Windows 10 "reset this PC" feature as we have no MDM configured. We just want the laptops to be totally reset so they don't contain any company information, we're not bothered about completing the OOBE once they are wiped. We are trying to accomplish this remotely as our users are all at home, so I need to automate it and have no user involvement in the process, I just want it to factory reset, and bring the laptop up to the off-the-shelf state configuration. We have the facility to push commands and scripts to the laptops so was hoping to do this via powershell. Does anyone know if this is possible? Is Microsoft aware of an issue with various Windows 10 processes causing thedate modified timestamp on the NTUSER.DAT file in unused profiles to change? We have specifically noticed that installation of cumulative updates modifies this file in all profiles, but there are other processes (I'm guessing scheduled tasks but I haven't found which ones) that do this too. This is particularly a problem in Education as we use the "Delete user profiles older than a specified number of days on a system restart" GPO setting to clean up old profiles on Lab and Classroom computers and that policy relies on the timestamp on the NTUSER.DAT file to determine the age of the profile. (The USMT tool also uses that file and timestamp when you specify to only capture profiles used within the last XX days.) For reference, thedate modified timestamp on the profile folder in the Users directory does accurately reflect the last time the profile was used.SolvedJoe_FriedelAug 31, 2017Brass Contributor120KViews9likes52CommentsRecommended hardware requirement for Server 2019, Visual Comunnity 2022, SQL 2019 Express on same PC

1. I deploy Windows 10 enterprise in a lab environment where hundreds of unique domain users are logging in and using the computers every monthy. We've had a problem where after a few weeks the Start Menu (and cortana) will become unresponsive, leaving users without a working Start Menu. I've seen posts from other users running into the same issue and based on my own troubleshooting I suspect the problem happens after windows updates are applied. Is MS aware of this issue and are there any plans to address it? 2. When building my image for these lab environments, I like to create a custome default user profile so that anyone who logs in will have the same user experience, for example the same desktop icons in the same order. In order for this to work, I have to sysprep my gold system twice using the copyprofile flag in the unattend.xml file. From what I can tell, I have to do this because the copyprofile process doesn't actually take place until the system is booting back up from the first sysprep. So I have to perform a second sysprep to actually capture the image with customizations made from the first sysprep. Is there a better way to do this? We set up public computers for use in a library while giving patrons access to administrator rights like installing their own programs. Seems like an age old question but it seems like I am close. I would like to get a boot option menu on reboot and choose from two different Windows (7 & 10) on two different drives. I have Windows 7 32bit on my D drive and Windows 10 64bit on my C: drive. I was led to believe I could add it with this command: bcdboot d:\windows /d /addlast However I am getting a "Failure when attempting to copy boot files" error. I am a little worried about experimenting as I could destroy my boot block on my windows 7 drive. I guess worse case I can change the boot order in the BIOS but it would be nice to do that with a boot menu. Some of the windows 10 boot tutorials seemed to lead me to believe this option would be detected but I am gathering it would have happened if it was done on all the same drive.BTW these are SATA drives.peter_sDec 31, 2018Copper Contributor29KViews0likes3Commentssystemreset.exe command line options
I'm doing a lot of testing with Windows autopilot. Is there a method to reset the machine solely from the command line using the systemreset.exe tool? I cannot find any documentation for the switches it supports. My goal it to do a full reset of the device but via a script rather than clicking through the UI options. I ran the sysinternals tools 'strings' against it and I see some options like -factoryreset which do work but I'd like to get a full listing/reference.shockotechcomMay 22, 2023Iron Contributor29KViews0likes4CommentsUpgrade win 10 entreprise evaluation copy to fully copy

Hello Friends, Has anyone successfully created an unattend or autounattend answer file for the LTSC 2019 version of Windows 10 Enterprise? If so, would you be willing to share it? If not, is anyone else trying to do this? Are there any step by step walkthroughs available yet- where are they? I have a project before me to create an image for cloning to 80 new computers, and creating an uncluttered desktop is the goal for my end users. LTSB proved helpful in this respect, despite all the warnings against using it. We are a small company and do not use SCCM. I'm an old-fashioned manual desktop kind of person (dinosaur).
