Surface Go NFC
The surface go has an NFC device in it apparently but info on this thing is incredibly sparse! I have no clue about it at all.. Does anyone have any information on this aspect of the device at all? Microsoft's product pages have hardly even mention it, and searching the internet is not producing any official information. This is potentially very useful for business so what the heck Microsoft, why is it not front and center??
Surface Go LTE... GPS was a useful surprise, can anyone elaborate on it for me?
I recently traveled extensively in areas that had NO LTE or cellular service. I had downloaded some maps for the areas and was surprised that the Surface GO was able to pinpoint my locations. Now that Microsoft has a device that can do this, it would really help to see some expandability of the Maps app to include the ability to download sections of aerial maps. The lack of this ability was quite detrimental to my ability to get around in some very out of the way places. I realize "real people" get to use real devices that can do all this in the form of smart phones, but I need the bigger screen and the Windows OS, I don't want an iPad or Android for my needs. I can handle the fact that I can't use Google Maps, but the Windows 10 Maps App would be FINE if it would just let me download aerial maps. Aside from all of that can anyone tell me how does it know my location in the absence of the Cell Signal? I had thought that assisted GPS only meant that it used cell towers to triangulate or something, I was obviously mistaken. Can anyone tell me what the ACTUAL GPS capabilites of this device are? Is this built in GPS like I would have in a Garmin dashboard device for example? If yes, boy would it be great to be able to have some offroad mapping and trail app capabilities for this, particularly when and if we ever that the Qualcomm version with long battery life. Thanks, I have been slapped around by Microsoft so hard with the Phone fiasco, it would be really nice to see them put some effort into the apps for this very nice GPS capability of this device. JF
Surface Pro 7 & 8 Suddenly Not Loading Certain Websites and Apps
I moved to a new house and have all the same routers and services. After being here almost 2 weeks, both my Surface Pro 7 & Surface Pro 8 suddenly quit loading certain websites and apps. First noticed Twitter, then Amazon, speed test sites, etc on my Pro 8. Any app that requires internet access won't load. The device always shows that the device is connected to the internet. My email, calendar and some other sites load fine. I went through every diagnostic with a MS agent online and he finally gave up and considered it a hardware issue. The device was under warranty and so I shipped it in for service. I have a Pro 7 also, so I just began to use it. It was fine for about a day, then the same thing started happening. We have changed DNS services, gone through Surface Diagnostic Tool, updated, etc. Every other device in the house is working fine but the Surface devices. I finally got the idea to tether to my phone...and everything works!! So, if I get off of the internet in the house (which it has worked flawlessly with for 2 1/2 yrs) and tether to an outside source, it works fine. It has to be something peculiar to Surface devices.
