Is Microsoft planning firmware updates for Surface Laptop 3 devices for 2011 Secure Boot key?
As many people know, the UEFI Secure Boot Key provided as part of the Windows devices firmware is expiring in June of 2026. Microsoft have announced plans to update these keys for most Surface devices, but have not made any such announcement for Surface Laptop 3 devices. Will the company issue updated firmware for these devices before June? Or, does the company recommend that users replace these devices before the 2011 key expiration date? The information publicly available is sparse, but it does appear that Microsoft no longer intends to update firmware for Surface 3 Laptops - which is fine, except that the after the key expiration, these devices will be substantially unusable, with impacts to UEFI Secure Boot, BitLocker and more... This is a Windows problem, and I will personally be very disappointed if Microsoft chooses to abandon users of these machines...Auld_Michael_BFeb 12, 2026Copper Contributor36Views0likes0CommentsSmart Charging
If Microsoft hasn't already done so, it should explain its reasoning for denying users the option of activating Smart Charging. Microsoft certainly knows users have important reasons for wanting to control that. My computer only knows how it's been used. I know how I will be using it. So there must be some less-than-obvious reason for restricting that. Users have control of options that, on the surface, appear much more dangerous than controlling whether battery level charges to 80 percent or 100 percent.JLGDec 18, 2025Copper Contributor42Views0likes0CommentsWindows 10 and 11 Dual Boot vs Hyper-V or Virtual Box, etc.
I have a Surface Studio 2 that is dual boot between Windows 10 and 11 - it allows me to pick the OS the boot screen. Anyone successfully configured this one another Surface old enough to support Windows 10? The recovery images were helpful in getting this setup in the first place. i used disk manager to shrink the partition so I could dual boot configure the system. In theory I could dual boot Windows 11 and use one install to join the Windows Insiders while maintaining another partition/image for production versions of the OS… My ARM versions of Surface don’t seem to run the Hyper V/Windows Sandbox as easily as my handy old Intel versions do!Stilldrey-MVPNov 30, 2025Learn Expert81Views0likes0CommentsSurface 5 needs a specific domain e-mail to be used.
I customer brought in a Microsoft surface 5 laptop that had no operating system. I could not install windows 10 or 11. Then I found out from one of the microsoft community that this laptop lags the basic in-built system. So I downloaded and made a bootable USB. I brought it to factory setting level. Then login wanted a non-personal e-mail address. So I created a registered a domain name and e-mail. Now the login says it is not the specific domain name. My client bought 3 such laptops in an auction. These laptops were sold to a particular organization. So it expecting to use a particular doamin name in username e-mail. How do I find as to what that should be? All help will be appreciated.akbar1045Jun 01, 2024Copper Contributor250Views0likes0CommentsCan’t get warranty support from MS
I have a Surface Pro that has a bad touch screen and is still under warranty. I called the support number and must provide a serial number. At that point the system says it “may be out of warranty” and to go to “surface.com/support.” I have gone to that site and filled out the form, but no response. I keep trying to call, but I never get to anyone. I am extremely frustrated that I have a MS device, purchased directly from MS, and can’t get a warranty repair started! Like many of you, I use this daily and need it working. Can anyone please direct me what can be done? Thank you.Wynand2125Mar 12, 2024Copper Contributor270Views0likes0CommentsSurface pro 5 charging port
I have a Microsoft surface pro 5. It was charging fine but then it's stopped. I figured this was because of smart charging activating but then the battery drained and it took a whole day to charge again but after it stopped charging yet again it's been a while not still not charging. I checked the charging port and found two pins are bent towards the inside. My question is can it still charge if the remaining 10 pin are fine and in contact with the magnetic charger or do I have to replace the portJruitha_30Jan 02, 2024Copper Contributor416Views0likes0CommentsSurface "3" compatible keyboards
I just purchased a Surface 3 and I'm trying to find a Bluetooth keyboard / TouchPad for it that is magnetic. I do not want a keyboard that connects using the Pogo pins! When searching online there are countless keyboards for the Surface pro 3/4/5.... that are Bluetooth (non pogo pin). But I cannot find anything that says it's compatible with the "Surface 3"... Does anybody know if any of these keyboards will attached to my Surface 3 slot?bigjoncoopOct 23, 2023Copper Contributor684Views0likes0CommentsSSD change with higher space
