Surface dial and One Note
So I'm really disappointed that the surface dial doesn't have any one note integration. Even the zoom function doesn't work, and that's just one of the general presets. The dial being fully integrated with onenote makes perfect sense, and its ridiculous that it doesn't work.Paul_The_ninjaFeb 23, 2019Copper Contributor5.8KViews3likes4CommentsDial support in Adobe CC products
With their newest update, the 2022 editions of their software, Adobe broke the spaces plugin the Surface Dial depended on for integration into applications like Photoshop. Adobe has stated publicly that they have no intention of remedying the situation, and suggests that Microsoft creates a plugin for Photoshop if they intend the Surface Dial to work with Photoshop. (unsure if links to other software makers' forums are permitted, but they can be provided on request). Are there any plans at all within the Microsoft Surface programming team to create such a plugin for a third party piece of software, or have Adobe just made my surface dial a completely worthless purchase/overpriced volume control?sveinskogenDec 21, 2021Copper Contributor1.9KViews3likes2CommentsMicrosoft mice: design issues to perfect
Dear Microsoft team, In May 2017 I bought a Microsoft Surface Mouse and after five months of use, the scroll wheel stopped functioning. I then contacted the technical support, and they sent me another which a few months after I ended up suffering from the same problem. After those two products had suffered from the same issue I decided to tear down the mouse, the problem lies in a tiny plastic hexagonal prism that fits on the mechanism that detects the wheel movement. Then in December 2017, I bought a Microsoft Surface Precision Mouse which has been mechanically functioning nicely and is a major update in ergonomics compared with the Microsoft Surface Mouse. The issue with this product lies on the molded TPE plastic which covers the sides, it attracts dirt easily. For the past year, I have successfully cleaned it with a humid cotton cloth, but a few weeks ago the plastic started deteriorating. Although I'm a Mac user, I prefer Microsoft's accessories above Apple's and appreciate the effort Microsoft is putting in releasing new products that stand out from other manufacturers. But Microsoft needs more attention to design considering the heavy use of these products and their materials confront. Looking forward to hearing from you receive my regards, Alvaro AntonOccasionalflyerJun 30, 2019Copper Contributor627Views1like0CommentsSurface accessories do not match modern way of working.
I love MS tech, but in my opinion the accessories are not matching up to the need of current workplace or way of working. Simple things like multi-device connect, support for iOS and Android is missing while other vendors are leading the game.Ashish TrivediMay 28, 2019Brass Contributor737Views1like0CommentsSurface Pro 8 Cover defect
Hello everyone, I’d like to share my experience with the Microsoft keyboard for the 13-inch Surface Pro 8 with pen holder compartment. After a little more than two years of use, the keyboard stopped working. At first, I thought it was a software problem, so (after checking for updates) I followed all the reset and diagnostic procedures recommended on Microsoft’s website, including those suggesting a safe mode restart, up to a full system reset. None of this worked. I then checked on Microsoft’s website to see if it was still under warranty, but unfortunately, the two years had just passed, and the site suggested I send it in for a paid repair... Instead, I decided to look into the issue myself and discovered that the flex cable connecting the keyboard’s connector was cleanly cut right after the pen holder slot, which is made of metal. The cut occurred exactly where the metal base that holds the pen ends, at the point where the keyboard bends (see photo). It is clear that the flex cable has no protective layer to prevent the metal from cutting into it when the keyboard is bent. In my opinion, this is an obvious manufacturing defect that should be covered under warranty. It would be nice if Microsoft gave some acknowledgment in this regard. So I've been encountering this here and there and have no rhyme or reason or resolution yet. Say I have to move a user's equipment to a new spot (dock, power, laptop etc.) After moving and hooking up everything, normally during that 1st or 2nd week in the new spot they will report that their laptop just alerted them of like 3% battery and that its not charging even though its been being used and on the dock. Everything else plugged into the dock are working fine so they dont notice its not charging until its too late. The light on the dock part plugged into the Surface Book is active and all. Undocking and re-docking does not fix it, rebooting the machine does not fix it. Only unplugging the docking power and plugging into a different outlet will get it to start working, every time. In the beginning i've installed and verified it has the most up to date dock firmware, swapping out docks will obviously "fix" the issue for that situation but its not a full fix moving forward. I've tried different kinds of surge protectors (thinking that was it). But this will still happen, either if they dock at a different dock (other then their own) or i just had a few users a week ago that this happened to and they have been at their spots for months or close to a year! I have no idea what is going on! We only use the Surface Dock gen 1'sWilliam LampertJan 26, 2022Brass Contributor823Views1like0CommentsDock 2 firmware versions
How do you tell what is the current version of firmware that has been released for a Surface Dock 2? I've looked at the files listed here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=101317 None of those files have numbers that match what I'm seeing in the accessories view of the Surface app on Surface Book 3. Windows Update says I've got all the recent updates but I'm trying to validate that because this dock is a replacement for one that kept blinking my monitors so I would like to make sure, rather than take it on faith that WindowsUpdate is working.
