Please bring "Set Tabs Aside" to New Edge
As a student, I used the Set Tabs Aside feature all the time. It's one of the reasons I used Edge over Chrome in a Google-heavy school. That habit of setting tabs aside has followed me after school, and it has proven useful time and again. So please bring this feature over. This feature has helped define Edge. EDIT: It would also be super amazing to bring Set Tabs Aside to the cloud.ej_6612Apr 08, 2019Steel Contributor34KViews171likes99CommentsUI
Consistency on UI. Add Fluent design effects like shadows and highlight effects. Add History, Download, Favorites button on the top bar like in "old" EDGE. Add History, Download, Favorites on one place. One page with 3 tab maybe? Add a option to display the Open/Save as when download like "old" EDGE. Preview page when hovering it in app bar. The Account tab when press on the bar button is too small (on my device, Surface GO), the text is very small and almost not readble.DamixApr 08, 2019Steel Contributor28KViews168likes103CommentsIt's not Edge if it doesn't have these features!
Please don't ship the new Edge out of beta without these features: from most important to less in my opinion 1. Set Tabs Aside 2. Ask Cortana 3. Better Integration With native Windows 10 features (for example: native share dialoge, Acrylic material etc...) 4. The Shelf UI for bookmarks, history & downloads etc... 5. Add Notes (Inking)DeletedApr 08, 201920KViews135likes75CommentsEdge container tabs
Hello everyone. One of the things I like in the Firefox is the possibility of using containers. Mozilla have two containers add-on's, Facebook Container (exclusively to the Facebook) and Multi-Account Containers. The first is used to prevent Facebook tracking our online activity by creating an isolated and exclusive environment. Where every cookie, every tracking script, APIs that Facebook creates / uses / have, are isolated inside the container. And the second, is almost the same thing as the first, works by creating an isolated environment as well, but is for any website. The containers are, a some kind, sandboxes. I'd like to see the support for this in the Edge. Microsoft need to bring this to the Edge, but in a natively way without the need of installing any extension. And the option to create a container tab can be placed next to the profile avatar, for example. By the way, Chrome/Chromium do not have support for this. This is a very very useful. About Multi-Account Containers: https://blog.mozilla.org/firefox/introducing-firefox-multi-account-containers/ I do not know if I can put this kind of links, but, if I broke any rule, I'll remove this post.hferreira107Apr 17, 2019Iron Contributor111KViews132likes91CommentsAdd the epub reader from EdgeUWP to Edge Chromium.
I know this might be considered a 'niche' feature for some, as I see it's left out of a lot of the feature suggestions for the new Edge; however, alongside the other inking/reading features in old Edge, I used this feature quite frequently. It's great for students/academics. For extra context, I never purchased books from Microsoft's books section of the Microsoft Store--not one, but I definitely used epub files in Edge. Additionally, because there's no other native e-reader in Windows 10, as there is on iOS, MacOS, and most Android-based devices in some capacity, and the e-readers in the Microsoft Store are terrible, this feature is desperately needed for those who use it. What's the point of having Windows 10 devices be touch-enabled without a decent e-reader?? Frankly, this feature distinguished Edge from other browsers for me and was the only reason I kept it on my taskbar as other work that I do required the blink engine. New Edge needs to remain competitive with other browsers, and this would be one way to do it. Otherwise, a native reader separately packaged with OneDrive integration for libraries would be amazing--but I think that could usefully be done here.rsfarrisApr 08, 2019Iron Contributor14KViews88likes18CommentsDiscussion - Updating our interface with Fluent touches
Hi Insiders. We have received a whole lot of feedback on the overall design of the next version of Microsoft Edge. First off, we would like to thank you all for the feedback that you have submitted. We also want you to know that we are continuing to evolve the look and feel of the new Microsoft Edge. You can see our progress in our new icon, in the changes to dark theme, on the layout of the settings pages and in the style of the controls that we have added so far. Our goal has been to modernize the next version of Microsoft Edge while keeping the feel of the original. In the five years since we released the first Microsoft Edge browser with Windows 10, the Microsoft Design Language has and will continue to change and adapt. We have been evolving our user interface with this in mind and may be the first place you see some of these changes. We are planning on continuing to apply elements of the Microsoft Design Language to align with other Microsoft products. We are thrilled with how much you think about the look and feel of the new Microsoft Edge browser. As we dug into the feedback, we found different ideas lumped together into very broad buckets and felt like we needed to re-sort the issues into new categories that are more specific to the actual issues that were being discussed. The previous categories that we have been reporting on are: Update the user interface with the Fluent Design System Make tabs more square and less rounded, like the current version of Microsoft Edge Provide a transparent theme for the browser frame The address bar and text are too large The first step of this journey was to dig into each of the feedback items individually and understand what your ask was, and if there was a reason listed for the feedback. This helped us better understand why you are asking for these changes. The next step we took was to recombine the feedback and sort it into more specific buckets. We understand change is challenging, and we are not changing our interface just to be different. We have been working closely with our designers to get a look and feel that aligns with our Fluent Design language and meets our standards for usability and accessibility. It is our goal for our design to be easier to use on a daily basis. When you provide feedback, it helps us to challenge our assumptions and makes us reanalyze our conclusions. Based on this analysis, we are seeing the following themes emerge from your comments: we will be tracking and following feedback in these categories going forward: Ability to add distinct color or color themes to the main browser interface. Add transparency or other material effect to the main browser interface. The corners of the tabs and browser buttons have been rounded too much. Make the tab band and address bar / toolbar smaller if device doesn’t support touch capability. Update or add animations to user interface. Add a reveal effect to highlight on mouse hover. We would love to start talking about these items now. Please let us know if you think that we are on the right track with the changes we have made so far. The most impactful feedback is that which lists the task that you are trying to accomplish, the challenges that you face while accomplishing it, and your ideas on how it could be made easier. Also, feel free to reach out if you think that we have missed something important here. We will always take feedback and suggestions to help us make this the best, fastest, most productive browser possible.SolvedElliot KirkJan 13, 2020Microsoft138KViews82likes479CommentsBring Multi-Account Container Tabs to Edge
Elliot Kirk David Rubino I really hope that Multi-Account Container Tabs feature is in the todo list of Edge team. As you know, Firefox is the first major browser to introduce this innovative functionality for safe and organized browsing experience. But Multi-Account Containers can also be used by web developers as an important and time saving tool. This can be one of the big differentiating features of Edge. The Problem While building multi-role web applications we need to constantly logout and login with different user accounts. There should be a better way to improve this workflow. Current Solutions Incognito mode: Gives only one extra session. Multiple profiles: Different profiles are separate instances. Currently it is not possible to sync among multiple profiles. So even profiles allow multiple sessions, it is very difficult to use as a workaround for multi-container tabs. Specially without history, bookmarks, and passwords the benefit of multiple session is very little. Better Solutions Multi-Account Container tabs Allow syncing among multiple local Edge profiles. Because it is not possible to create so many real online Outlook accounts to get container tabs like benefit. To make it even helpful allow automatically merging data of selected local profiles to one chosen Outlook profile. Show option to re-create those local profiles when logs into Edge in another machine with that consolidated Outlook profile. Hello everyone and thanks for your significant interest in our feedback item of “Provide run / open / save as options when downloading files”. This has been a very interesting problem to think through. The downloads team would love your thoughts on whether we have identified the main customer needs such a feature would need to address. We believe that there are three main things being asked for: You would like a way to open a file without having to keep it on your computer so that your downloads folder remains “clean” (eg. You want to view your bank statement, but want it deleted after you are finished looking at it) You would like a way to choose the filename and location to save the downloaded file so that you can better organize your downloads (eg. You download a family photo IMG_1502.jpg and want to rename it to Reunion2019.jpg and save it in your Photos folder) You still want a light-weight downloads process that does not require many clicks (eg. User wants to download multiple photos in succession and move them in bulk afterwards without having to click “Save” each time). This is what our downloads flow currently addresses; one click to download. You would like a way to easily switch between (1), (2), and (3) for different files you are downloading; one size does not fit all (eg. For bank statements, you want to just open it, and have it deleted afterwards. But for family photos, you want to be able to rename and save to a specific location). Do you think we are thinking in the right direction? We are still exploring possible solutions to this problem and any additional feedback is most welcome!SolvedElliot KirkOct 29, 2019Microsoft52KViews72likes216Comments
