As I was researching on Adobe Acrobat reader and Sensitivity labels, I decided to check if the common alternative PDF readers out there are able to support Purview MIP Sensitivity labels. There is already a published documentation on this for SharePoint-Compatible PDF readers that supports Microsoft IRM: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/purview/sp-compatible-pdf-readers-for-irm (last updated Nov-2023) but I wanted to see if these same PDF readers supports the ability for end-users to use/ select labels similar to that of Adobe Acrobat As of 11-June-2025; atleast one of them clearly do: Nitro PDF: Yes. Documentation shows that users can see and use the sensitivity labels. PDF -X.change Editor: Yes. Documentation show that users can see and use the sensitivity labels. (check the official website, I can't hyperlink it because the site is blocked. FOX PDF editor: No. Documentation only states RMS and not clear if it show Purview labels. This is for F.O.X.I.T editor (spelled without the ".") but for some reason there is a community ban on that word and it won't allow me to post the full name PDFescape: No. Sumatra PDF: No Okular: No If there are other PDF readers that I've missed, I encourage you list it down in the comment below. Would love to grow this list.671Views4likes3CommentsUpdates to Assets Prevent Future Scan Updates
We've been working with Purview slowly over the last few days. Today I was able to scan some heavily used on-prem SQL server databases. Once the scan was complete I went into the assets, located the first asset I wanted to classify, and started to add a description. The minute I clicked Edit on the asset a warning appeared stating "Making a manual update to the asset will prevent future scans on this asset from updating it." As a software developer, I understand why this might be necessary, however as a member of the data governance team it concerns me. I need the ability to add classifications/glossary terms/contacts/descriptions to newly discovered assets, but I'd also like scanning to update the schema as the asset changes based on information found in scans. Is the functionality to edit an asset manually and receive updates from scans something that is on the roadmap? Will it be available in GA?6.3KViews3likes8CommentsApply Sensitivity label on SharePoint or Teams site to block offeline sync
Hi All, I was wondering is there any way if we apply a label toa SharePoint or Teams site (backed by SharePoint), we can enforce restrictions such as "Don't allow offline sync". Thanks in advance, DilanSolved150Views2likes2CommentsMicrosoft Purview Best Practices
Microsoft Purview is a solution that helps organizations manage data and compliance. It also uses AI to classify data, monitor compliance, and identify risks. Key features include data discovery, classification, governence, retention, compliance management, encryption, and access controls. Purview ensures data security, prevents insider threats, and helps implement data loss prevention policies to meet compliance requirements. Hi, I am looking to onboard a device in Purview for the purpose of testing some Endpoint DLP policies. I have ran the onboarding script locally and the device successfully appears on the 'Devices' screen. 'Real time protection/RTP' and 'Behavior monitoring/BM' both show as 'enabled' with a green tick, however under 'Valid User' it has a red cross and states: "Invalid: No authenticated user found. Without proper authentication, data classification is impeded. To ensure precise validation, we recommend re-onboarding to Active Directory". The device is in active directory. I have signed into the device with an account that is also in Active Directory. Is there anything additional that I need to do? Any help would be really appreciated - thank you!!!Solved1.8KViews2likes4CommentsIndia Voter ID Card found 172,000 times. How can I disable built-in "Sensitive Info Types"?
When I open up Purview, one of the things I'm greeted with is the image below. I found another forum post and it appears you cannot disable these built-in items. I was also unable to delete them (grayed out). This is insanely frustrating and seems to be a huge security detriment. I could have a hundred United States SSNs but they would be pushed off this list by literally a million things I don't care about (I know for a fact our documents don't have any India Voter ID cards...). Even if I could delete the, one by one, there are HUNDREDS of types that are not relevant to us. Is there any way to just disable all the defaults?258Views2likes5CommentsPurview Unified Catalogue Gov Domains Numeric Prefixing
Has Anyone Tried Numeric Prefixing for Governance Domains in Purview? Context: We introduced a structured numeric prefixing system for governance domains in Microsoft Purview to make hierarchical sorting more intuitive. What we did: Parent domains use a base prefix ending in .00 (e.g., 02.00 Group). Child domains are numbered sequentially (e.g., 02.01 Directorate, 02.01.01 Team). Why: Purview sorts domains alphabetically, which caused child domains (e.g., 02.01) to appear above their parent (02 Group). Adding .00 ensures parents always sort before children, creating a clear hierarchy. How it works: All already have 01.00- Top-level groups: 02.00 Directorates: 02.01, 02.02 Teams/Units: 02.01.01 This approach guarantees correct sorting, clear hierarchy, and scalability for future additions? Question for the community: Has anyone else implemented a similar numeric prefixing approach in Purview? Do you think this is a good idea for maintaining clarity and scalability? Any alternative strategies you’ve found effective?32Views1like0CommentsCross-Tenant Purview Scan of Fabric Lakehouse fails to ingest Sub-items (Delta Tables)
Environment: Tenant 1 (Consumer): Azure Purview (Microsoft Purview Data Map). Tenant 2 (Provider): Microsoft Fabric (Capacity + Workspaces). Architecture: Purview in Tenant 1 is scanning Fabric in Tenant 2 via the "Fabric" Data Source using Azure Auto-Resolve Integration Runtime. The Issue: I can successfully scan and see Item-level metadata (e.g., Workspace Name, Lakehouse Name). However, I am getting Zero sub-item visibility. No Delta Tables, no Columns, and no sub-item lineage are being ingested into Purview. Configuration Verified: Service Principal (SPN): Created an App Registration in Tenant 2 (Fabric Tenant). Permissions: The SPN is a Member (and I tested Admin) of the target Fabric Workspace. Fabric Admin Settings (Tenant 2): Allow service principals to use read-only admin APIs: Enabled for the SPN's Security Group. Enhance admin APIs responses with detailed metadata: Enabled. Enhance admin APIs responses with DAX and mashup expressions: Enabled. My Specific Questions for the Product Team / MVPs/Members: Authentication Flow: For sub-item ingestion (Delta Tables) to work cross-tenant, is it sufficient for the SPN to be a standard App Registration in Tenant 2 (Provider), or does Fabric require the "Cross-Tenant Access" (Guest User) flow where a shadow SPN is created via the specific trusted external tenants configuration? API Limitation: Is the "Enhanced Metadata" API payload (metadata/subartifacts) restricted to Same-Tenant calls only during the current Preview? I suspect the API is returning a standard payload instead of the enhanced one due to the cross-tenant boundary. Workaround: Has anyone successfully forced ingestion of Delta Tables cross-tenant by using the Apache Atlas REST API to manually inject the schema entities, or is there a specific hidden toggle in the Fabric Admin Portal (perhaps specifically for "External Principals") that I am missing?70Views1like1CommentSome Fabric Lakehouse tables not appearing in Microsoft Purview after scan
Hi everyone, I’m running into an issue where several tables from a Fabric Lakehouse aren’t appearing in Microsoft Purview after a workspace scan. Here’s the situation: I scanned a Fabric workspace that contains multiple Lakehouses. For most Lakehouses, the tables appear correctly in Purview after the scan. However, for one specific Lakehouse, several tables that I know exist aren’t showing up in the scanned assets — even after adding the Lakehouse as an asset to a data product in the Unified Catalog. What I’ve tried: I rescanned the workspace and the specific Lakehouses. I verified that the tables are persistent (not temporary) and appear under the Tables section in Fabric, not only as files. I confirmed permissions for the Purview connection account. Scan results and errors: After the rescan, the tables still didn’t appear. The scan logs show several ingestion errors with messages like: Failed to ingest asset with type fabric_lakehouse and qualified name [qualified name] due to invalid data payload to data map I checked the error entries to see which assets they point to, and none of them are related to the tables in the Lakehouse in question. There were four of these errors in the last run. Additional context: Some older Lakehouses that had been archived months ago in Fabric still appeared as active in Purview before the rescan, so there may be stale metadata being retained. Notes: I’m aware Fabric scanning in Purview currently has sub-item scanning limitations where item-level metadata is prioritised, and individual tables aren’t always picked up. But given that tables from other Lakehouses appear as expected, and given the ingestion errors (even though the errors do not point to the missing tables), it feels like there may be a metadata sync or processing issue rather than a simple coverage limitation. Question: Has anyone encountered this behaviour or the “invalid data payload to data map” error before? Any guidance on further troubleshooting steps would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!139Views1like1Comment
