I absolutely hate this new right-click menu when I am on File Explorer. I cannot directly click "Refresh" but have to click 'Show more' and then only click "Refresh". WTH was Microsoft thinking when deciding that. I shouldn't be the only one who is getting annoyed with this.42KViews6likes19CommentsHow to directly open a folder on my OneDrive via Windows 10 File Explorer Quick Access?
I want to open folders which are on my OneDrive directly via the Quick Access list in Windows 10 File Explorer. To do this I add folders to Quick Access via the "Pin current folder to Quick access". However, when I do this, the Quick Access "shortcut" to the folder doesn't open the folder on the OneDrive. Instead, it opens the locally-stored mirror of that folder. (This is the "on demand" cached copy created by OneDrive, I assume). What must I do to achieve what I want, namely that the Quick Access link opens the folder on the OneDrive directly?35KViews0likes3CommentsSharepoint columns sync with File Explorer view, or an alternative option
Hi all I'm more an admin person rather than IT, but have been asked to find a solution for one of our directors who prefers to open his documents using File Explorer over Sharepoint online. And before you ask, no he won't change his ways! I need to be able to set up File Explorer to filter/display/order (however you want to name it) project folders synced with Sharepoint according to whether they are: 1/ Active or Complete (status) 2/ under his name as project manager. I thought I had found the answer by adding columns to Sharepoint (see attached a screen shot below), but I have since discovered that those columns do not feed across to File Explorer. The only other solution I have is adding multiple layers of folders to Sharepoint. This will only complicate the library for other users so I am averse to implementing this. Is there a way of tagging or adding some form of metadata to folders that will pass between Sharepoint and File Explorer that we can use to then filter the view on his device? Any suggestions please and thank you.18KViews9likes22CommentsFile Explorer shows incorrect date for Date Created
Windows10 1909. I added the "Date Created" column to document listings in File Explorer. Although the column heading is correct, the date shown for every file/folder is a date from last week. I think it is the date the files were added to OneDrive but I can't be certain of that. The correct creation date is still in the properties of the file/folder stored on the pc. If I look at a file listing online in OneDrive they show the correct creation date. Any ideas of cause or how to fix?7.9KViews0likes5CommentsWindows preview in File Explorer causes files are locked message
We have an issue with Windows Preview in File Explorer. When an employee opens a pdf file from the network they receive the message: "PDF file is locked by another user. Would you like to open a read-only copy of the file". The issue is not that the file is in use, the issue is that the preview button is buggy. If I tell the employee to disable the preview button the issue goes away. We use Bluebeam REVU 2019, but this issue has been around for at least a couple of years. Excel is sometime affected by the preview button as well. Who at Microsoft is tasked to fix the issue with the Preview button? Our employees love to leave the preview button engaged because they like that they can view a smaller version of the files they are viewing. Thank you,5.2KViews0likes3CommentsWindows 11 File Explorer controls are potentially unclear to older users
I work with many older clients over the age of 70 and several tell me they do not "read" icons very well, and prefer to look for text on screen to help them remember what the "different buttons do." The optional large ribbon of toolbar buttons in Windows 10 File Explorer made things extremely clear, with large buttons and icons with clear text explaining the common functions of copying, pasting, moving, renaming, sharing or deleting items. I personally like the minimal design of Windows 11, and it is great that the design follows through all apps, so that the icons are the same, but I would really like to see a few more text labels. I attach a suggested improvement for File Explorer:2.9KViews0likes5CommentsIssues with SP Online mapped drives in File Explorer
Using the file explorer is widely preferred is widely preferred in our organisation - and we use WebDav to be able to access file repositories via file explorer. When trying to access SP Online mapped drives via File Explorer we have been getting intermittent error messages such as: "\\domain.sharepoint.com@SSL\DavWWWRoot\sites\... is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. A device attached to the system is not functioning" "Windows cannot access \\domain.sharepoint.com@SSL\DavWWWRoot\sites\... - Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose" Or sometimes no error message but the folder in File Explorer will just say "This folder is empty" (when it's not in reality). The issues are intermittent, it can be fine for a whole month and but then just be absolutely horrendous for two weeks. One thing I have picked up on is that these issues are network wide: so if I am experiencing the issue, 100% my colleagues also couldn't access at the same time. The issue is limited to just SP Online repositories, it works perfectly fine with SharePoint 2010 for example. Would appreciate any input.2.4KViews0likes0CommentsFile Explorer takes 4-5 seconds to open after updating windows to version 20H2.

There is a bug in Windows 10 when renaming files and I believe it is being caused by OneDrive or any other sync platform. This problem has been present for at least a year. It's difficult to describe this issue, but basically in Windows 10, if you want to rename a file without replacing the entire file name, you double click the file name or hit F2. Then you click within the file name to deselect the name so that you can make partial edits. However, Windows 10 reselects the entire file name again a second later. With OneDrive closed, this issue isn't present.1.9KViews1like3Comments
