Previously with Sharepoint on prem and older Office version using the Document Information Panel (DIP) you could enable in SharePoint to always open/display the DIP when opening documents from a library. Now with the move to the SharePoint Properties Panel and using SharePoint Online I cannot find a way to have this enabled by default when opening documents. As Metadata is critical to using SharePoint as any form of a document management system this needs to be enabled. Is there some registry key or something from client side? Or some option in the maze of settings on the SharePoint Online side the equivalent of the DIP enabled one? This is what I mean by SharePoint Properties Panel:2.6KViews3likes1CommentSession Expired - Please refresh error message
Another user and I are working on the same word document online. When he works in a table entering data, we both receive the "Sorry your session expired. Please refresh the page to continue". This only happens when he is entering data in the table. He can copy and paste tables in the document and he can enter text in other places without issue. It is only when working inside the table. I receive the same error when he does even if I'm not doing anything in the document. I could just be watching what he is typing and I get the error. Any suggestions?12KViews1like2CommentsError inserting - as an object - TXT or PDF file into Word (for MacOs)
Error when inserting - as an object - TXT or PDF file in Word (for MacOs) When trying to insert a TXT file as an object, to be displayed as an icon (Insert-> Object -> From File (Display as icon) in Word for MacOS, the application gives the following error message: "Server application, source file, or item not found. Verify that the application is correctly installed and has not been deleted, moved, renamed, or blocked by policy." Inserting as a file (Insert->File...) works correctly. When trying to insert a PDF file as an object, I only inserted the first page as a picture. I contacted Microsoft 365 support who advised me to post the issue in this forum. Thank you for any and all help.Solved478Views1like3CommentsUsing Canvas for Figures creates large files
Hello, I am looking for a solution / help regarding file sizes. To describe the problem I'm facing: We have a lot of Word documents describing different tasks. The documents contain a lot of pictures, some with many inserted shapes to highlight / point to a certain things. Currently I use Drawing Canvas to keep the pictures and shapes in place and not to fall apart when editing. The problem is, doing it this way, the file size dramatically increases. I have compared the same document with figures in Canvas and another with pictures inserted without Canvas, the size increases drastically (e.g. form 10MB to 120MB). Some things i've tried: -Not using Canvas - obvious, but the shapes and figures do tend to fall apart, leaving small shapes scattered in the document. The documents are edited by many users with different levels of Word knowledge and attention to detail, thus rendering this solution unviable. -Using Tables to anchor the shapes - this also proved unviable, because when deleting a picture from the table, the cells resize regardless of the shapes (which are still anchored to the table itself, but are now outside of the table overlapping a text), and when deleting the Table, the shapes remain. -Inserting already edited pictures - while this solves the problem with shapes, it is also unviable, because the shapes often changes. Creating a collection of stock pictures that can be re-edited to suit changes could resolve this, but there are thousands of different pictures, so that would be counterproductive. -Using an alternative software to Word - unviable due to internal restrictions...and the fact that almost everyone has at least some experience with Word to be able to edit a document. -Compression of pictures - that is the only "kind of" working solution, but another problem was discovered. When trying to compress all pictures and deselecting the option to "Apply only to this picture", strangely not all pictures get compressed. When multiple pictures are in a Canvas, only one picture gets compressed. When pictures are "Grouped" with shapes, sometimes the compression skips them entirely. Hopefully my description of problems is understandable... Thank you all in advance 🙂731Views1like2CommentsIgnore all in Word Editor
I am working on a Surface with Windows 11 I am having difficulty understanding how the Grammar function in Word works. I have three questions: 1) Why does word as you are working through grammatical errors continue to add more errors even as you are eliminating them? 2) If you are working with a large document with over a thousand grammatical errors, some of them more style than substance like a preference for participles, if you choose "ignore all" when confronted with a participle like "the boy stood his ground, hoping not to be..." rather than he hoped etc. is ignore all going to ignore only this particular configuration where the word "hoping" is used? 3) If when working with a large document one with over a thousand errors, in which for stylistic reasons you use "ignore once" how can you save those changes so that when you close and then reopen you aren't confronted with those previous errors you already dealt with?7.5KViews1like1CommentFormatting page numbers, headers, sections in a book with chapters.
I have a 600+ page document. A novel. It has 43 chapters divided into five "parts." I need to have alternating headers. The one on the left-hand pages (even numbered) should be my name. The one on the right-hand pages (odd numbered) needs to be the title of the book. I could do all that, but here's where it gets complicated. There are pages of "front matter" before the first numbered page, which will be the title page, which is actually on the 9th physical page of the book. Then it has to skip to the next rhp, and that's page 3, the beginning of the first chapter. HOWEVER, no page number or header can appear on first 3 pages; no headers or footers or page numbers on any chapter starting page, or on Part One, Part Two, etc. The numbers and headers on those pages need to be suppressed. The first page on which the headers and page numbers appear is page 4. Also, every first page of every chapter must be the next right hand page. Ditto for the Part pages. The people I've spoken to for support at Microsoft don't know how to do this. They give me instructions, but as soon as it gets a little bit complicated, they are GUESSING, and then they are GOOGLING. And in case you think that I have made up this complicated procedure.... pick up any book, any novel with chapters. For at least the last 75-100 years, all novels (and most non-fiction, too) with few exceptions have used these same publishing layout conventions. I need help from someone who really knows Word and doesn't have to guess or Google. I need someone who does this kind of thing. An expert. I look forward to your response. Somebody at Microsoft, I'm sure, has more than a superficial knowledge and understandingof Word. PLEASE. Richard Goffman If you reply to this and I don't get back to you right away, that'll mean I probably went to bed. THANK YOU.1.8KViews1like4CommentsEquations not rendering in Word
Hi everyone, I have an Office 365 Subscription and so I use the online version of Word for my work, I've done so for a number of months. All of a sudden today all of my maths equations stopped rendering. Now all I see, if I try to use the equation editor, is a grey box that says [Equation]. This is true for new documents and also all of my old documents that included equations. I've tried logging in and out again and tried on Chorome and Safari. I lean on this function quite heavily for my work so any help would be appreciated.Solved25KViews1like17CommentsHow to import the text from another docx but change the formatting
Good day. I have five documents. All five should have exactly the same content (text and footnotes) but different formatting and layout (paper size, font size, line spacing, columns, etc.). Is there a way to change the text of only one document without needing to copy-paste it to the other two? Thank you!Solved2.6KViews1like8CommentsWord Blocked Macros
Hi We created some macros to fill in a Word document according to information provided by a third party software called Protheus. The macros were working perfectly, but as of last week, after some Windows/Office update, the macros were blocked by the system and we couldn't use them anymore. All macros are saved locally on the pc of the person using it. We already went to the properties of the files and unlocked. In the Word Trust Center options, we added the macro paths as trusted, including subfolders. We set it to run all macros. We have disabled the protection mode for executing files from the internet. Even with all these settings, it still gives error. Error Message: Microsoft Office has identified a potential security issue. Microsoft has blocked macros from running because the source of this file is not trusted. File Path: C:\Users\(my user)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\Content.Word\~WRC0001.tmp Microsoft has blocked macros from running because the source of this file is not trusted. The error message path is one of the only ones we couldn't put as trusted, Word doesn't allow to add it as trusted. Macros are saved in two folders: C:\sc and C:\contrato11KViews1like19Comments
