Windows update has rendered a purchased app unusable
After a routine Windows update, yesterday 27th March, an image editing app, Paintshop Pro no longer loads. I have run through various potential fixes suggested by Claude - according to which the problem is the MSVCR90.dll file overwritten by the Windows update. I have downloaded the old version of the file and copied it directly into the Paintshop directory, but it still doesn't load. It's analogous to having some authority performing upgrades outside your house and destroying part of your property. Straightforward fixes really need to be provided for this sort of thing.
Disappearing sound and taskbar icons
Hi. Problems since the last update on: Edition Windows 11 Pro Version 25H2 Installed on 25/04/2026 OS build 26200.8246 Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.297.0 Initially, sometimes the task bar items disappeared although still present, and sound failed while waking from sleep. Computer wouldn't boot 1st attempt but would on 2nd attempt. This occurred after every shutdown. Secondly, graphics started to stutter and lag in Brave but not Edge or Chrome. This developed to everything systemwide stuttering, lagging and slowing down. Installing a 5 year old graphics driver sorted the problem until the next reboot when the device manager showed a problem with the driver and system slowdown re-occurred. Reinstalling the operating system has cured the lag and stuttering, but sound still disappears randomly after sleep and taskbar icons still disappear, although they came back when I opened settings. Yet another dodgy update, it has become a regular occurrence.
Issue With Opening Browsers After Windows Update
Update was done on Monday. Since then, we are unable to go to certain websites, we get an ERROR 505 or just a blank, white page while it shows the page is loading, it just never does load. I tried to uninstall the update to go back to normal, but Windows now says there are no updates to uninstall. I have gotten an IT guy involved and he tried to solve it as well but he says it must be a bug in the Windows update as everything was fine until the update happened. I have tried the following...note that I also restarted the computer after each attempt to fix this issue: Uninstall the updates (cannot uninstall them though) ran my antivirus ran the computer in safe mode cleaned out the cache, browsing history, downloads and cookies uninstalled firefox and google chrome then reinstalled them troubleshoot Windows troubleshoot Microsfot Exchange modify/fix Microsoft Exchange tested internet connection tested that the websites were not down or having issues (they were not) tested the websites on different computers (they are all on Windows 11 - no issues) Nothing has worked. Still error 505 or just a blank page. the system is a Windows 11 The other two computers are fine (we did not update them). HELP!

NOTE: At the time of writing, the workflow used in this example is vendor neutral and technically accurate, so it can be used with other OEM / White Box ODM models, despite the fact that the device listed as "Lexmark MX610de", in the following example, is not actually installed on my operating system, neither do I own one of these copiers / multifunction printers. Even if the signed driver is older, the copy machine itself still receives firmware updates in 2026, and the encrypted fax function does support the TLS 1.3 draft spec. 1.) Use the following control panel item to install printer drivers, if the executable installer fails after not being able to detect the printer without the Add Printer Wizard, and a program like 7-Zip is required to decompress files contained within the self-extracting installer executable file: Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Add Drivers ( Toolbar icon right below the Help drop-down menu ) -> %UserProfile%\Desktop\Lexmark_MX610_Series_ADV_Installation_Package\InstallationPackage\Drivers -> Enabled / Checked: Include subfolders NOTE: The printer may be listed as "Lexmark MX610de" in the Bluetooth & devices settings menu, under Printers & scanners, though you won't be able to print using this device name, and if you remove it, Windows will reinstall it after the next reboot. It's extremely important to NOT SELECT THIS DEVICE NAME when using the Add Printer Wizard, to avoid overlapping device driver conflicts. It won't show up in the print dialog menu regardless of what you do, so the only method that works, is to use the drivers you installed in conjunction with the Add Printer Wizard, in order to set up the printer. 2A.) Settings -> Bluetooth & devices -> Printers & scanners -> Add a printer or scanner -> Add Device -> The printer that I want isn't listed -> Add a new device manually -> Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings -> Use an existing port: USB002 (LexmarkLexmark 610 Series) -> Install the printer driver -> Manufacturer: Lexmark -> Printers: Lexmark MX610 Series XL -> Which version of the driver do you want to use? -> Use the driver that is currently installed (recommended) -> Printer name: Lexmark MX610 Series XL -> Printer Sharing: Do not share this printer -> Set as the default printer 2B.) Alternate: Settings -> Bluetooth & devices -> Printers & scanners -> Add a printer or scanner -> Add Device -> The printer that I want isn't listed -> Add a new device manually -> Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings -> Use an existing port: USB002 (LexmarkLexmark 610 Series) -> Install the printer driver -> Manufacturer: Lexmark -> Printers: Lexmark MX610 Series XL -> Printer name: Lexmark MX610 Series XL -> Printer Sharing: Do not share this printer -> Set as the default printer NOTE: While the Xerox Global Print Driver *may* work, it doesn't let you fully configure the printer prior to queuing any print job. 2C.) Last Resort: Settings -> Bluetooth & devices -> Printers & scanners -> Add a printer or scanner -> Add Device -> The printer that I want isn't listed -> Add a new device manually -> Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings -> Use an existing port: USB002 (LexmarkLexmark 610 Series) -> Install the printer driver -> Manufacturer: Xerox -> Printers: Xerox Global Print Driver PCL6 -> Printer name: Lexmark MX610 XL -> Printer Sharing: Do not share this printer -> Set as the default printer 3.) Open the "Devices and Printers" Control Panel item to verify that the printer is listed as the default printer: Settings -> Bluetooth & devices -> View more devices -> More devices and printer settings 4.) After ending an application's process via Task Manager, the application's taskbar icon does not disappear immediately; it remains visible on the taskbar. When I press Win + V to open the Clipboard History panel, the interface is blank and does not display any copied items, even though the Clipboard History feature is enabled in Settings. Restarting the computer or restarting File Explorer temporarily resolves the issue, but it reoccurs after a while.
