Re: Support for M365 Apps (O365) on Windows 2022
Dear Elden_Christensen please keep in mind, within your internal discussions, that in case Microsoft would decide to support M365 Apps on Windows Server 2022, this would be a welcome change for some scenarios. On the other hand, and quite importantly, Microsoft should consider this decision would be the second time that the support of M365 Apps revoked from Windows Server would be reinstated later. As it happened with Windows Server 2019. Back then the decision was a good one for several reasons: - WS 2016 has bugged servicing stack taking ages to patch - WS 2019 has several improvements to start and search / indexing making it easier to implement RDS or Citrix based multi-session use. Next to said servicing improvements and other things. - the alternatives to cope with the revoke weren't up to par and not that versatile as they appear now in terms of technical excellence and licensing. If Microsoft would change this decision and support M365 apps on Windows Server 2022, this would absolutely destroy the credibility to plan budgets and lifecycles based on roadmaps published by the Office team. This time there is little reason, as many functional and cost effective alternatives to RDS exist. In terms of licensing, starting from October 1st which Microsoft supposed to loosen the VDI licensing requirements and make it easy to either host VDI on-premises on any hypervisor or in Azure using Windows 10/11 Pro / Ent while user are licensed with M365 E3/E5/Fx etc. Alternatively, hosting Azure Virtual Desktop on Azure Stack HCI on-premises will be a great option. Even external hosting M365 apps within SPLA and on shared hardware could become an option starting from October 1st without QMTH provider requirements. So before taking any u-turn, please consider these announced licensing changes, and rate their effectiveness, in addition to feedback from customers and / or partners to revert to "status quo". Thanks for your time and consideration!10KViews1like4CommentsISSUE - cannot change my account's email address
Dear techcommunity staff, our company has been merged. I am looking for a way to change my email address. The account has been created by a work account. Fields to change email are greyed out. I would not like to create a new account as I would loose ownership / track of all conversations, history and notifications for topics and my contributions. What can I do?Solved2.3KViews1like7CommentsOn-premises FSLogix Support for Partners revoked
Dear Microsoft FSLogix Team, this is not a technical support request. I am describing a changed behavior for the process of creating support requests, which now prevents Microsoft partners from doing so. Yesterday, I tried to open a support request for an FSLogix on-premises (not AVD) implementation. according to this guide (I am not aware about a newer reference) https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/14ea5f6f-760b-4ad2-83cf-23c3cbc1bcc4/how-to-open-a-fslogix-support-request?forum=FSLogix the business support is still responsible, and the customer needs to select On 21st of June it was not possible to submit any request using an MPN ID support contract. Today on the 22nd of June these contracts are entirely revoked. In both cases Partner Signature contracts are greyed out. Means MS Partner cannot longer open business support requests for FSLogix on-premises following the guide linked above. Will there be an update on the common guide or an updated blogpost on techcommunity, since technet is in read-only mode for this matter? Additionally, opening the ticket via phone is still possible but with caveats. The first agent declined to open the ticket via the described buckets and persistently insistet that FSLogix tickets belonging to the Azure category have to opened via the Azure Portal. This is not correct for the on-premises use of FSLogix according to the guide. I called again and the next agent was not hesistant to open the ticket in the Azure category. Although he faced a 12 minutes delay to open the ticket due to a problem with the internal system.867Views0likes1CommentRe: Windows Update Catalog servers seems to have issues. No WSUS import possible
It worked again later, without changes at the customer's end. So, it was a temporary problem in the catalog. I have just repeated it and it works as designed. You do not have to use IE but can setup IE Mode in Edge. I have posted instructions earlier in this post: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-server-for-it-pro/how-to-import-out-of-band-updates-to-wsus-using-microsoft-edge/td-p/2918311 Mind that despite this setup the error happened, but can confirm it is solved at the moment.1.6KViews1like1CommentRe: Server 2022 KMS host key bug; Can't activate Win10 Enterprise LTSB/LTSC
Armando_Rivera with the myriad of issues KMS are stunning. Mind that KMS, and so also ADBA are out of door. CSP (New Commerce Experience) licensing won't give you any KMS keys anymore which is a pity IMHO. KMS will reside for classic licensing models and big customers having EA(S). Also notice that service providers don't want to give you KMS keys anymore. So you must go down the route with MAK Keys and VAMT 3 from the lastet ADK to have centralized and easy management. Also Domain Join is going out the door as Microsofts target are Azure AD joined only endpoints (not talking about Windows Server yet). VAMT can handle activation of domain joined and non-domain joined devices. Interestingly it is not pushed in the docs. My recent PR on docs on KMS has been closed after sitting for months. Armando, can you confirm that the devices you try to activate are domain joined?6.2KViews0likes4CommentsRe: ReFS volume appears RAW (version doesn't match expected value) after Windows Update
MikeLabatt stephc_msft Stephen can you confirm that the remaining issue for ReFS 1.x is documented in the Windows Update History for affected Windows Server and Windows Clients? If not, I'd propose including it in Windows Update History and link to a new techcommunity article or KB article explaining the situation and solutions, so briefly what we discussed here. If affected people with ReFS 1.x have a large amount files / data to copy instead of robocopy they can also leverage other tools. I would recommend Gurusquad GSCopy which is infact more scaleable, around 40% faster and has better reporting, open file support etc. I regularly use this for file server migrations. If one want to stick with Microsoft Tools I would recommend to create a share on the root folder and use Windows Admin Center Storage Migration Service. This is an easier process for those not being familiar with robocopy and it thas also good output. One needs to omit the last step to change servernames etc. WAC SMS would only work if one creates a new machine (VM) with a ReFS 3.1 oder later volume. It is not designed to copy from one volume to another on the same machine.15KViews0likes1CommentRe: ReFS volume appears RAW (version doesn't match expected value) after Windows Update
stephc_msft I have a question about the following scenario A customer had Windows Server 2019 VM attached to a VM controller and was affected by the ReFS RAW issue The server had 2 ReFS volumes formatted with ReFS 3.1 4k Clustersize Both were locally attached to a VMware controller of the VM (NVMe controller) What happened: One of the volume was affected on this machine the other was not affected. You mentioned removable drives earlier so I wonder in which condition Windows considers SAS, SCSI or NVMe drives as removeable drives. Thanks for taking the time to elaborate on this scenario.15KViews0likes0CommentsRe: ReFS volume appears RAW (version doesn't match expected value) after Windows Update
Thanks for clarification Stephen! One question aside if a customer uses WinPE or WinRE from Win10/2016/2019/2022 is this one able to read ReFS natively, I am aware it is not for Storage Spaces. Some still use Windows Backup to backup files this be restored? TY.15KViews0likes1CommentRe: ReFS volume appears RAW (version doesn't match expected value) after Windows Update
If you data is still RAW after installing all updates and uninstalling the defective one first, then it is very likely that your ReFS volume has been formatted pre Windows Server 2016 and is not yet on ReFS version 3.x ReFS version gets upgraded with OS Inplace upgrades when the volume remains attached (this cannot be reverted) https://gist.github.com/0xbadfca11/da0598e47dd643d933dc In this case have an old Server 2012 R2 Update 1 without this bugged patch and mount this volume to this server to gain access to your data with earlier REFS version. If you then execute and inplace upgrade from 2012 R2 to 2019 this ReFS volume would be upgraded to the specific version Microsoft supports and the patch would work with. Hope this helps.15KViews0likes6CommentsMicrosoft Clearinghouse server connection issues + phone line is dead end
We see a rising number of customers having issues installing or reinstalling their RDS Licenses via automatic connection. According to volume licensing support reinstalling licensing should not work this way any longer and requires customers to contact the RDS activation hotline which is +49 800 5077777 for Germany. If you dial through the menu and reach the RDS Licensing support, for weeks it is not possible to get through speaking with any agent. Instead the phone computer asks for your phone number and to enter it via your phone (DTMF). Whatever the way you enter a number like +492212343434 or 02212343434 it ends up that the voice computer says the number cannot be recognized. I guess that the Microsoft Clearinghouse server has issues with TLS 1.2 and some ciphers but we cannot pin it down even with the networking guys. Here are some possible messages: Customer A: Cannot install licenses, the server is correctly activated and can also be reactived successfully Customer B: Cannot install licenses, server ist correctly activated but can only be reactivated via web. Interestingly activating or reactivating the RDS CAL Server itself works fine on some customers On Other customers even this is not successful anymore due to connection issues. I began to see this last year when customers began to use Windows Server 2019 RDS CAL Servers, while Windows Server 2016 and 2012 R2 were unaffected. We have tried to setup a fresh Windows Server but no help. So 3 things causing a combined issue and blocker: - the RDS CAL phone support is unavailable in Germany - Automatic activation installing new licenses does not work (but is required for RDS via CSP) - Automatic activation re-installing already activated licenses does no longer work according to VL Support as - Automatic activation for Activation / Reactivation of a Server does not work anymore for some customers due to connection issues6.8KViews0likes6Comments
