Re: iCloud for Outlook Incorrect Username or Password
rayb100 Many apologies -- I thought I was replying to a different Outlook iCloud sync thread. As of June I was no longer able to get iCloud to sync with 32-bit Outlook, no matter what I tried. As per @MarMD 's suggestion, I switched to 64-bit msOffice and was able to get things to work. Please see this post for instructions: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-11/icloud-sync-solution-for-32-bit-outlook-incorrect-password/m-p/4175208#M12727 Apple has referred people to the above post, which worked for them, so I'm surprised they didn't do the same thing for you. The post describes in detail on converting to 64-bit msOffice and then installing iCloud, including some advanced workarounds if the stock installer doesn't work. It's a bit tech-y, but unfortunately I can't simplify it any further. At this point Apple should learn from the working fixes and update their installers. Whatever you do, backing up those calendars and contacts first is /always/ a good idea.385Views0likes0CommentsRe: iCloud for Outlook Incorrect Username or Password
My calendars and contacts are still happily synchronizing. Outlook did lose its connection the other day, so the "Refresh" button on the iCloud section of the Home ribbon turned into "Go online", but once I did that, it was back to normal. I'd say iCloud does still work with Outlook. Uninstalling and reinstalling is a very inconvenient way to fix a sync issue, and obviously /really/ inconvenient if it doesn't work. Did you try the steps and advice on the first page of this thread? So far that has worked on all the problem systems in our company.572Views0likes3CommentsiCloud sync solution for 32-bit Outlook (incorrect password, default profile error, iCloud repair)
As of version 15.x.x, iCloud for Outlook appears to be permanently broken when synchronizing contacts and calendars. The previous steps posted in "iCloud for Outlook Incorrect Username or Password" no longer work. As per a comment by MarMD in that thread, 64-bit office is the solution. Some people are able to fix the issue simply by upgrading to 64-bit office. If that doesn't work on the first try, the solutions below include additional steps to make it happen. (We had one PC just work, one required a few additional tweaks in Solution A, another required the full battery of steps in Solution B). Please note that both lists below are solutions, /not/ recommendations -- please decide for yourself. - Mike ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SOLUTION A: 64-BIT OFFICE -- WITH A FEW INSTALLATION TWEAKS This usually works, and ran fine the first time on one of our PC's. 1. Back up your current contacts and calendars from Outlook and from iCloud in Outlook to .pst files 2. Remove all 32-bit Office installations, including msAccess runtimes (msOffice installers insist upon 32-bits if there are any 32-bit Office components installed) 3. Reboot 4. Install 64-bit Office including Outlook To force this, you may need to specify a config.xml file See the attached .xml and .bat files show examples on how to specify the bits for the installation, as well as how to exclude specific Office applications like Lync and Groove. Note: these are examples to play with, not a full tutorial 5. Reboot. 6. Install iCloud, but do NOT enable any features yet This includes Outlook/Calendar/Contacts integration in the final step of the installation wizard. 7. Open iCloud. 8. Turn on Calendars and Contacts 9. Follow the steps in the wizard 10. If there's no error, go to step 12. 11. If there's an error, including any of the following, go to SOLUTION B. - Setup can't continue because outlook isn't configured to have a default profile - Incorrect username or password - iCloud outlook repair required 12. If you open Outlook at the iCloud ribbon section shows on these ribbons, click Refresh - Home ribbon - iCloud ribbon 13. If refresh works, celebrate, you're done! 14. If the iCloud ribbon sections don't show, continue. 15. Go to File -> Options -> Add-ins -> Manage: COM Add-ins -> Go... 16. If iCloud Outlook Add-in is available, but un-checked, check it. 17. If the iCloud Oudlook Add-in does not show, click Add... and pick it from: %ProgramData%\Apple Inc\iCloud\Outlook\aplzod6432.dll (generic path, should work) C:\ProgramData\Apple Inc\iCloud\Outlook\aplzod6432.dll (typical path, might work) 18. Enable the iCloud Outlook Add-in 19. Re-start Outlook 20. If all works, now enable iCloud Photos, Drive, and other features (waited until now for other features just in case we had to sign out of iCloud while debugging, which removes all iCloud content and settings from the computer) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SOLUTION B: 64-BIT OFFICE -- WITH ADDITIONAL FOLDER PERMISSIONS This was required on a PC that just didn't want to cooperate. It's not pretty, and requires admin privileges, some freeware, and some tech expertise. But it worked. 1. Go through steps 1-10 in Solution A 2. Install Nirsoft's Advanced Run utility and 7-zip multi-archive software, both are non-adware freeware 3. Run Advanced Run 4. Choose 7-zip's file manager: 7zFM.exe for Program to Run 5. Run as... TrustedInstaller 6. Navigate to the iCloud master folder in %programFiles%\WindowsApps As of the date of this post, with iCloud 15.0.215.0: C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\ AppleInc.iCloud_15.0.215.0_x64__nzyj5cx40ttqa 7. Right-click on the iCloud folder and choose properties -> security -> advanced 8. Add localPC\Administrators to permissions, full control, for this folder, subfolder, and files 9. Add the current user to permissions, full control, for this folder, subfolder, and files Note: step 9 is required even if the current user is an admin. No idea why. 10. Apply 11. Close iCloud and reopen 12. Turn on Calendars and Contacts 13. Follow the steps in the wizard 14. This should now work, in which case go to step 12 in SOLUTION A above If not... 15. Close iCloud 16. In the iCloud application subfolder, manually run iCloudOutlook64.msi As of the date of this post, with iCloud 15.0.215.0: C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\ AppleInc.iCloud_15.0.215.0_x64__nzyj5cx40ttqa\ iCloud\iCloudOutlook64.msi 17. Run iCloud again 18. Turn on Calendars and Contacts 19. Follow the steps in the wizard 20. This should now work, in which case go to step 12 in SOLUTION A above If not... I really have no idea GOOD LUCK!1.5KViews0likes7CommentsRe: iCloud sync solution for 32-bit Outlook (incorrect password, default profile error, iCloud repair)
Tomspumpel wrote: If anyone has a current workaround on how to get this working, I would be incredibly grateful! Have you tried the steps in solutions A and B above? It sounds like your installation may be working in general, but then doesn't finish with the outlook add-in. You can manually add the add-in by following steps 15-onward in solution A. Or, if the aplzod6432.dll file isn't present to add, by following the steps in solution B. I understand there are a lot of steps and the solutions are a bit tech-y, but they should do the trick if iCloud is working but the add-in isn't present. A system admin or a Geek Squad / Staples tech should be able to take care of it if you're not super tech-oriented. I wish it were easier, but that's not up to me. (I've struggled with these synchronization problems so many times, if someone paid me for my working hours, I could retire tomorrow...) Ha! I am definitely in the same boat. Perhaps the most satisfying development is having Apple send someone here (thanks for sharing that), and that's a scant reward for all the time it has taken.631Views0likes1CommentRe: iCloud sync solution for 32-bit Outlook (incorrect password, default profile error, iCloud repair)
Jackmin wrote: So good. Thanks! I tried for weeks to make it work with 32-bit Outlook, after already having spent several days each year on ever-changing workarounds, but iCloud 15 just refused to work outside of 64 bits. Even then I had to monkey with the installation on two computers, including the odd WindowsApps permissions in solution B. Thankfully I haven't had to touch it since then, so my fingers are crossed that this will just work moving forward. Updating the workarounds once or twice a year was getting very tiring.637Views0likes0CommentsRe: iCloud for Outlook Incorrect Username or Password
Office 32-bit and Ofice 64-bit are compatible at the file-format level, but they have subtle differences with how they call .dll libraries. My guess is that Apple has tested and optimized for the 64-bit version, either because their own applications are 64-bit, or because they think (know?) that the bulk of new installations are 64-bit. That said, Office isn't changing much over time at this point, with the 2016, 2019, 2021, and 365 versions using the same registry settings and general architecture, so breaking Outlook with a new iTunes release in 32-bits, while having it work in 64-bits, is odd.1.3KViews0likes2CommentsRe: iCloud for Outlook Incorrect Username or Password
An older version of iCloud will definitely work. However, when I tried that, it wiped out all my iCloud calendars and overwrote contacts with information from Outlook, eliminating months of changes. If you try this, be sure to completely back up your iCloud contacts and calendars first.1.4KViews0likes0CommentsRe: iCloud for Outlook Incorrect Username or Password
Stuar1620 Have you tried: a) Removing all credentials from the credential manager and rebooting? b) Credential removal, then iCloud sign-out and uninstall, then starting fresh? Additional steps outlined Detailed steps in the post "iCloud sync solution for 32-bit Outlook (incorrect password, default profile error, iCloud repair)". I have no suggestions beyond those ideas. Though that's certainly plenty to try. - Mike1.4KViews0likes0CommentsRe: iCloud for Outlook Incorrect Username or Password
MarMD "I had to switch from Office 32bit to 64bit which solved the problem. " Me too, finally. Version 15.0 of iCloud seems permanently broken with 32-bit office. Even worse, one of our PC's needed additional steps, even after moving to 64-bits, and one required about a day of troubleshooting and additional folder permissions before it finally agreed to sync. Detailed steps in the post "iCloud sync solution for 32-bit Outlook (incorrect password, default profile error, iCloud repair)". Thanks for the tip.1.6KViews0likes0CommentsRe: iCloud for Outlook Incorrect Username or Password
Ouch. I hope you only have to do that once. I've avoided the 64-bit versions except for one users on our network who works with large Access databases (and doesn't want to store data in sqlServer). Partially to avoid the hassle, partially so that no one creates anything that's incompatible with 32-bit versions in terms of DLL references. We'll see how long I can remain blissfully ignorant.2.2KViews0likes1CommentRe: iCloud for Outlook Incorrect Username or Password
That's an elegant solution. I wouldn't have guessed that 64 bits would be the answer, but then again, I also wouldn't have guessed that the cached iCloud password would fail periodically during Windows upgrades. I'd say that's a friendlier option than the 22 steps!2.4KViews0likes3CommentsRe: iCloud for Outlook Incorrect Username or Password
TSchoech You're welcome. I'm glad it worked. Can you tell me which credentials you removed with the credential manager? I should add that to the full list, which I also post elsewhere. The reason I ask is that I wiped out all windows credentials the first time the error happened, and when that didn't do the trick, the list evolved. But... every PC is different, and if the credentials were part of the solution for you, that should probably be a step. Here's everything I have on the system that uses Outlook and iTunes:6.8KViews0likes5CommentsRe: iCloud for Outlook Incorrect Username or Password
I'm sorry I can't add anything new. I get why you'd want the calendar to work -- that's half the reason I've spent so much time on this over the past few years. I've got two PC's, one iPhone, and two iPads, and keeping the contacts and calendar synchronized by hand just wasn't happening. The calendar was particularly important because it's the reminder/alert on the device I have with me that is going to work. The password issue stems from Outlook/Microsoft getting confused about the cached iCloud password that it uses to sync up with iCloud every 10/15 minutes, plus every time you click the synchronize button. For some reason it stops working when MS updates certain components (which ones, I have no idea). Most Windows/Office updates have no effect, but a few times a year a larger update gums up that cached iCloud password. The most successful approach is to completely uninstall iCloud, then verify there's nothing left in the registry, and also remove the plug-in from Outlook via the steps above. Then reboot. And then reinstall. But man, what a hassle. And if that doesn't work, then a lot of wasted time.8.5KViews0likes0CommentsRe: iCloud for Outlook Incorrect Username or Password
New Update for February 2023 The latest Microsoft update broke iCloud again. While the October 2022 update above still works, this update streamlines it slightly by cutting out most reboots (kill all iCloud processes before the old step 9). The full list: Run iCloud setup as the logged-in iCloud user. Un-check the "Contacts and Calendars with Outlook" option, apply and close. Run Outlook, go to File / Options / Add-ins / Manage COM Add-ins / Go... Disable the iCloud Outlook addin, close Outlook. Run Outlook with "Run as Administrator", disable iCloud addin as per 3&4 above. Keeping Outlook open, /remove/ the iCloud addin, still as Administrator. Close Outlook (may need to reboot; probably not -- feel free to try both ways). Run Task Manager, close all iCloud processes if any are running (may need click "more details" and scroll down). Run iCloud setup with "Run as Administrator", enter password, confirm via 2fp If iCloud won't run, then it needs to be updated as part of the Windows update, and requires a reboot. In which case, reboot, and repeat from step 8 above. Check the "Contacts and Calendars with Outlook" option, apply and close. Run iCloud setup as the logged-in iCloud user, enter password and confirm if needed. Check the "Contacts and Calendars with Outlook" option, apply and close. Run Outlook as administrator, go to File / Options / Add-ins / Manage COM Add-ins / Go... Manually add the iCloud Outlook Add-in from the file in %ProgramData%, typically: C:\ProgramData\Apple Inc\iCloud\Outlook\aplzod32.dll Close options. The iCloud outlook add-in toolbar icon will say "wrong password" instead of "refresh". This is fine because Outlook was started as administrator and is using the wrong credential cache. Close outlook. Re-open Outlook as the logged-in user and it should now be happy and show "refresh".29KViews0likes17CommentsRe: iCloud for Outlook Incorrect Username or Password
You're welcome! It's a welcome gift when iCloud syncs everything up without having to pay any attention, and then a real pain in the article when it stops working. One thing that might help is removing all outlook-related credentials from the Windows credential manager (either in control panel, or start->Type "credential"), including "virtual app/didlogical. Didlogical shouldn't matter, but it's worth trying if nothing works. Other than that, the only other thought I can offer is the dreaded uninstall of iCloud and then a reinstall.30KViews0likes1Comment
