Teams phone calling features: Direct Routing vs Operator Connect
Hello everyone,
As far as I know Teams phone Direct Routing provide more features than Operator connect.
Does anyone have detailed feature list that Direct routing has while Operator connect doesn't?
or vice versa?
From my previous post I learn that "it is possible to assign numbers from a different country if you are using direct routing numbers. Operator Connect and Calling plans requires that the user have the same usage location as the number." (Thanks go to Linus Cansby)
Your information is appreciated.

Hi EZethan,
I can't find the detailed feature list (or a comparisson list) of Direct Routing vs Operator Connect, but here are some key features (summary) for the both options:Microsoft Teams Direct Routing:
- Versatility: Direct Routing empowers organizations to connect Teams with their existing telephony infrastructure, allowing the use of individual Session Border Controllers (SBCs) and connections to various telephony providers.
- Global Number Assignment: Direct Routing provides enhanced flexibility in assigning numbers from different countries, without being limited to the user's geographical location.
- Third-Party Integration: Direct Routing facilitates the seamless integration of Teams with third-party telephony providers, broadening the spectrum of telephony services.
- Advanced Call Routing: Direct Routing potentially offers advanced call routing options, enabling organizations to establish customized call flows and integrate additional services.
- Quality of Service Management: Organizations utilizing Direct Routing have increased control over the Quality of Service (QoS) for their voice traffic, ensuring a reliable and high-quality calling experience.

Microsoft Teams Operator Connect:
- Managed Solution: Operator Connect is a managed service where Microsoft collaborates directly with telephony providers to deliver a fully integrated solution within Teams.
- Simplified Administration: Operator Connect aims to provide a streamlined experience by handling the integration and administration of telephony services directly within the Teams environment.
- Effortless Deployment: Operator Connect is designed as a user-friendly solution for organizations seeking a simplified deployment process without the need to manage their own SBCs.
- Global Availability: Operator Connect is crafted as a global service, enabling organizations to leverage telephony services across different regions.

Thank you very much for your info., Leon.
It is very helpful.
Just wondering if those bullet points can be found in official document, e.g. Global Number Assignment which Direct routing can provide. I am unable to find it in the link you listed, and/or Microsoft doc.
Also, for the detailed phone features such as call forwarding, voicemail, what are any difference between Direct routing and operator connect if there is any?
Thanks again,
EZ
