New Teams - Video freezing
tfurlong YOU DA MAN for finding the root cause of this!
So for everyone including non-Dell people, here is the gist of how it works, and the "right way" to fix it (not disabling anything). I'm writing this for "every person" and not just techies, so forgive the verboseness.
Go to "C:\ProgramData\A-Volute". You will see some folders like this (ASUS shown, just follow the concept and you should be able to fix it for any brand of MB or computer that uses Nahimic).
If there are multiple folders like mine has, find the one that has a ...\Modules\ScheduledModules\Configurator folder already existing in it, and there should be a BlackApps.dat file in that folder. This is Nahimic's exclusions file.
Run Notepad as administrator (find notepad in the start menu, right-click it, then run as admin). In Notepad, go to "open file", then navigate to the BlackApps.dat file you found in the last step.
Insert at the bottom of the file (there will be a whole slew of exclusions already in the file, just add these lines at the bottom):
ms-teams.exe
msedgewebview2.exe
Exit and save the file. Restart the Nahimic service and restart Teams Reboot, and it should work. People have reported other dependencies that they needed to restart besides Teams and Nahimic, so just make it easy on yourself and reboot.

Switching to a Lenovo Laptop fixed the issue for me.

It has been reseolved for me for quite long now. (Probably mid 2024 already)
However I had one meeting a few weeks ago (Nov. 25) where the freezing came back again. But I just had it once.
I never experienced the freezing problem on my office/business HP Laptop, but on my private PC.Curently on NewTeams Version 25306.804.4102.7193 in use and fine.
- tfurlongDec 05, 2025Copper Contributor
Haven't seen it since I switched to Mac! 😁
- drouelletteDec 05, 2025Copper Contributor
By any chance, was this ever resolved? Im still seeing/getting this in teams on HP laptop(s). (current versions) and there is no Nahimic "in play"

So I'm having the same exact issue with black video-calls flickering since switching to the new Teams app, despite NOT using/having any of those Nahimic/A-Volute apps/folders on my PC. There's also no "BlackApps.dat" in any of ProgramData's subdirectories.

Rob_ICP_AZ I'm still facing the freeze.
The freeze happens after beeing in the meeting for a certain time.
Yesterday I had around 55 minutes in a meeting without problems video / sharing all fine and suddenly the freezing starts. Today freezing happend after a few minutes in the call.
The freezing is then only in the TEAMS or the EGDE in foreground. When they are in the background (but still joined to the Teams Meeting) other applications like Excel, Word work smooth.
When taking EDGE in front, the mouse movement is very delayed and impossible to work whit EDGE.
(I also tried to deactivate the "NahimicService", but still freezing.)
Quitting the TEAMS processes does not change that.
Only way is to reboot the system.
I made sure all the updates are installed listed in the ArmouryCrate App Update Center and all the AMD Chipset and Graphic drivers are up to date.
What I've recognized. Even during a normal working Teams Meeting there is some flickering on the frame around the presented screensharing or aroud the video streams. (I dont have that flickering using the olt Teams client.)
(Remark for new readers: GoTo this post for the solution working for most of the users)

- dackenMar 10, 2024Copper ContributorTnx! How did you fair?

All the drivers and BIOS are up to date.
The first Teams Meeting this morning worked fine, in my second Teams Meeting after 3 minutes in it, it started freezing again.
I ended the Teams Meeting (which is quite tricky, if the mouse reaction is so slow).
I then recognized that the reaction (mouse / keyboard) was still slow when navigating/working in EDGE browser window. Working in other application like Word was smooth.
I then turned OFF the "Use hardware acceleration when available" in Microsoft Edge settings and restarted Edge. After that working in EDGE was normal.
So, I switched the setting back to “ON” and restarted EDGE. After that working in EDGE was slow again.
I changed it a few times ON / OFF and could reproduce, that with the setting ON the slow reaction in EDGE is there. So I switched the option to “OFF” and made a system reboot.
For the moment everything works fine in EDGE an NewTeams, but I will try to do a few Teams Meeting and see if the freezing will come back with the setting on “OFF”.Will report after further testing/experiencing.

I can't explain the update thing but it does seem to be true. Whenever our help desk gets a call where someone says "X worked yesterday but doesn't work now" the first thing they tell them is to check to see if there are any Windows updates waiting and to do the updates if there are. Most of the time that fixes the issue.
I used to say it was impossible that unrelated software would just just stop working because there is an update waiting but I have seen it often enough to believe it.
- Rob_ICP_AZFeb 21, 2024Brass ContributorInteresting - I have a ROG B650E-F board and it still works fine, I just had a meeting within the last half hour, where there was a screen share (which would definitely freeze pre-fix). The Realtek audio driver for the X670E boards hasn't been updated since 3/23, so it can't be an Asus update, at least not to the sound driver.
One thing I can tell you is my motherboard and software were incredibly unstable in general until the previous BIOS update (from 1/30/24), and now it's suddenly super stable - so while it's a long shot that anything related to Teams would get fixed in a BIOS, if it's a stability issue with something at the system level it might help if you haven't already updated. Also, I have seen some weird overall behavior when there is an Armory Crate update waiting to be installed (yeah, I know that sounds illogical, but there is definitely a correlation). - oceanviewFeb 21, 2024Copper ContributorI have the fix applied for months. Worked until Monday. Still investigating why it appears again. (but in a sligthly different way)
- John TwohigFeb 21, 2024Iron Contributor
The fix has been posted in this thread for several months. The problem is caused by Nahimic and the fix is to blacklist teams in the Nahimic exclusion file. My motherboard is also an ASUS ROG STRIX board and Nahimic was installed with Asus software. I would be surprised if your issue is any different.
It might be useful if people tried the fix first and then posted if it didn't work. For most of us Nahimic is what caused the issue but it is possible that there could be something else causing the issue. So, if someone applied the fix and still has the issue we would know that there are other causes.

System Model Alienware Aurora R15
OS Name Microsoft Windows 11 Pro
Version 10.0.22631 Build 22631NOTE THE PRODUCT JUST UPDATED So this references the immediately PRIOR version:
Version
You have Microsoft Teams version 24033.804.2695.4008.
You've got the latest version. It was last updated on 2/21/2024.
The client version is 49/24020205509.I continue to have video-freezing issues, especially when content is Shared either by me or others. The CLASSIC Version works fine, but I took the extra step to remove it. I tested the functionality, and on the new version, it still freezes. I removed both the Classic and New from my machine. Then I reinstalled it. I am STILL seeing the issue. NOTE: as I said above, this is about the immediately prior version. Further, I CAN use the Browser version as a workaround.

The problem is with my ASUS ROG STRIX X670-E based PC, while my HP Laptop always worked fine.
I just faced the issue again today.
- I fresh booted the PC from power on and joined a Teams meeting. No issues for like 5 minutes. Then freezing/delay started.
Vocie was fine, but the desktop sharing (receiving) and the videos (In/Out) - Closed NewTeams App and started it again. Still freezing issue.
- Made a Windows 11 Restart (without powering down) and joined a Teams meeting.
No issues. (I stayed in the meeting for over an hour. No freezing.)
Will do further testing, when I have time.

- f4flakeFeb 21, 2024Copper ContributorThank you both so much for this. It's driven me nuts for months and I've finally sorted it out.
- Rob_ICP_AZFeb 19, 2024Brass ContributorDid you make sure it's still in the BlackApps file? Make sure they (HP) didn't update Nahimic and overwrite the file with one that doesn't have our exclusions.
Mine worked fine this morning, version is 23335.232.2637.4844 and it was updated today. - oceanviewFeb 19, 2024Copper Contributor
Hi Rob
That solution worked fine for me for the last few month, until today Feb. 19th since a new NewTeams Version 24033.803.2689.2248 / Client Version 49/24020205503 got installed this morning, I experienced the same freeze issue again.
Experienced it in two meetings. Made a reboot twice and at the moment it is running fine.
Will see with next meetings if problem returns.(I have another HP device running the same version that never had the freeze issue and is still running fine with the above version.

ilandsj I don't know man, looks like that's a pretty old MB (2015) and it's very possible Nahimic changed their software around a bunch since then. I have a B650E-F which is from 2022 or 2023 and still in the current lineup, that's what I'm going off of. Your system is obviously using Nahimic's software from the search, but it could be the same issue with different specifics for the fix (or if they don't have an exclusions file it could be impossible to fix without removing it), or a different issue entirely.
We got lucky that someone from a Dell forum had a solution for theirs and shared it here, and I was able to extrapolate that to other systems using the same basic Nahimic layout (which appears to be common to newer releases). But if the layout is completely different, I don't know.
They could have renamed their exclusions file since yours was made - you might have to do some kind of findstr search for something you would expect to find in it. I attached mine (as a docx because for some reason txt is not allowed), you can look through it for search strings to try if you want to pursue this.
You'd run it like:
findstr /i /s "firefox.exe" *
I would start in %programdata%, but if you get nothing you might have to expand to the entire C: drive.
Good luck.

Rob_ICP_AZ I have an ASUS ROG Maximus VIII but I can't find any blackapp file or a-volute folders. Nahimic doesn't even show up under any of my services. The only searches I was able to find are these:
- Rob_ICP_AZDec 14, 2023Brass ContributorRolled back the AMD driver to the previous one (23.12.1 rolled back to 23.11.1) where I know for 100% sure it was previously working after the Nahimic fix. Still having the "bad redraw on window resize" issue (which is not the same as the original issue with a completely frozen screen).... This means it has to be a Teams update that happened since then and not related to the video driver.
Is there a way we can get notified when a New Teams update gets released to the general public? I am going to have to switch back to Classic, but I will test new releases, if I know they were released. - TRosen73Dec 13, 2023Copper ContributorI have the very same issue.. No blackapps.dat or anything Naimic or A-volute found on my C: drive. Switching back to old teams fixes the issue. Dell Latitude 7640 here.
- Rob_ICP_AZDec 12, 2023Brass Contributor
Do searches on the entire C: drive for blackapps.dat, Nahimic, A-volute*, etc if you haven't already.
I actually have one of those Xonar U7 II devices sitting around somewhere unused ATM, maybe I'll check it out and see if adding it causes any issues. I do know that device will work without installing Asus's software and just using Microsoft's drivers, so if you think that's it, you can try removing Asus's stuff and just use the drivers provided with Windows. As mentioned before, you will lose the ability to level out the 7 channels in software without Sonic Studio, so this may not be acceptable. - PJBuzzDec 12, 2023Copper ContributorSadly for me, I don't have a A-Volute folder.
I have an Asus Xonar U7 II USB sound device which has Sonic Studio and very old drivers, so there is a reasonable chance this is at the root of the issue.
I also don't see the service called Nahimic and can't find the blackapps dat file. - John FeganDec 12, 2023Copper ContributorA very good response which really helped me a non techy to try and resolve. Unfortunately the freezing issue isnt a problem any more because I now have no picture at all.
