(Beta) Color issues with Dark Mode in Excel
I just downloaded the insider update that allows for a full dark mode in excel. A couple of things I've noticed: Black and white are inverted. If you select black for a font color, cell fill, or border color, you'll end up with white, and vice versa. If someone is in dark mode, they're going to get awfully confused when they try to change various colors of the cells they're working in and aren't getting the color they want to pick, especially for those who need to use specific colors in their spreadsheets for whatever reason. This isn't so bad with black and white; annoying as it is, you can still at least remember to choose black when you need white or white when you need black. But when you choose other colors, you often end up with a color that is vaguely in the family of the color you selected, but not really. Trying to select the standard yellow used for highlighting, and you end up with an almost pale gold-like color. An example of what happens with a few colors is shown in the picture, but every color is affected to some degree. This makes the dark mode feature almost entirely useless for those who rely on colored conditional formatting in some or all of their spreadsheets, as the colors selected in dark mode end up being completely different from the color you actually wanted to select, and it's nearly impossible to try to figure out which color you have to select to get something that even resembles the color you actually want. The colors of individual elements of a spreadsheet (Font color, highlighting, borders, etc.) should not be altered this severely based on whether or not dark mode is turned on.The-Man-In-BlackMar 08, 2025Copper Contributor2Views0likes0CommentsNew Translation Functions in Excel: TRANSLATE and DETECTLANGUAGE
Hey Microsoft 365 Insiders, Great news for Excel enthusiasts! Excel now includes powerful translation functions, allowing you to translate and detect languages directly within your spreadsheets. The new TRANSLATE and DETECTLANGUAGE functions help break down language barriers, making your data more accessible and your workflow smoother. Discover how it works in our latest blog post by Gedion Alemayehu, Product Manager on the Excel team: New Translation Functions in Excel: TRANSLATE and DETECTLANGUAGE NOTE: These are preview functions. Their signature and results may change substantially before being broadly released, based on your feedback. So, we do not recommend using these functions in important workbooks until they are generally available. Thanks! Hi all, I'm trying to use Powerpoint to project supertitles (captions) live for an opera on a Macbook. Been a while since I've used the software and the current version of presenter mode is giving us some issues. We've got the current slide in the top left, the next slide in the top right and that's all great. Then we have the preview of the current slide at the bottom and every time we go to the next slide it's doing this sliding motion to the next slide even thought the slide show itself has no transitions. The slides at the top work the same as the slide show so we can work with it but it's a kind of really distracting having the slides at the bottom get way behind and glitch out because we're flying through some of these slides. Does anyone know a way to hide the bottom preview or disable the timing on it so it just snaps to the next slide like the actual slide show does? All timings of everything are disabled and set to manual or zero. I just can't find any option regarding that section of the Presenter View. Beta 2502. Issues with files from the internet, mail, etc.
When I try to open a Docx or Docm file that originated from the internet, I get the attached message and the file does not open. So far, I have only encountered this behavior with Docm files, which then open with a red warning bar but can still be edited with macros disabled. I have not seen this before with Docx files. The message is also misleading because it does not indicate the ZoneIdentifier, but rather implies that there are no file permissions. This is misleading and completely unnecessary for Docx files since there is no security issue involved. For DOCM files, neither a certificate nor listing as a trusted publisher helps.SchlupMBFeb 09, 2025Copper Contributor48Views0likes4CommentsOneNote only Searching current Section
Search in my OneNote works differently than I read it should. When I search in is only looking in the current section of my notebook. Since I tend to have many sections without a lot of pages in each section, if I knew what section(s) what I was looking for was in I could find it by looking. Any idea what might be wrong and how to get search working properly?SolvedJohn TwohigFeb 06, 2025Iron Contributor2.4KViews0likes5CommentsOffice Beta Channel Version 2502 Build 18516.20000
My beta channel Office suite updated to Version 2502 Build 18516.20000 this morning, and now Outlook crashes any time I select an email or open a calendar object. Not even opening the email, just selecting it crashes. Even when opening up in Safe Mode. I've also performed Quick Repair and Full Online Repair with no change in behaviour. In Word, just opening a document crashes out as well. Google Play Store states that Sticky Notes have been added to the Android version but I can't see them? Hello, Microsoft 365 Insiders! This is Priya Ganta from the Outlook for Mac team. If, like me, you have multiple email accounts configured within Outlook or have long shied away from adding your personal accounts to your work Outlook, I have some great news for you! I am excited to announce a new feature now available for Outlook Mac that lets you create a distraction-free experience across multiple accounts. Profiles in Outlook for Mac In Outlook Mac, you can now create profiles – for example, one for your work account, and another for your personal account. You can then select your work profile and Outlook will not bother you with any notifications from your personal email accounts. Similarly, if you select your personal profile at home, Outlook will not bother you with work-related emails. With one click or by pressing the Control+Tab keys, you can switch between Outlook profiles in seconds. You can even automate switching with Siri automation. Switching to my personal profile every weekday evening after 6pm and then switching back to my work profile at 8am is just one example. Until now, you couldn’t mute notifications by account, or show only certain accounts when in a focus mode. Using profiles, you can now: Theme your work profile to be a different color than your personal profile. Switch between various Outlook to help with work-life balance. For example, you can switch to your personal profile, every weekday after 6pm and switch back to work at 8am, the next day. Set up as many profiles as you need to best manage your time and your inbox. Define different Outlook window appearance for different profiles. Tie your email accounts within Outlook for Mac to Apple’s Focus Filters. The possibilities are endless! Head over to the blog post to learn more and see other updates coming out soon!
