Typing ö using US Int keyboard's standard right Alt+P wrongly deletes all contents of a cell

Lately when I want to type ö (German letter o umlaut corresponding to Alt+0246) with US Int keyboard, which is located at "right Alt+P" (or also I have it mapped to "right Alt+O") deletes all the content of the cell that was written there before typing the letter. I.e., if I'm typing "Hellö" after adding "ö" it will immediatly transform to just "ö" in the cell.

It is not the case with any other "Right Alt+ letter" combination, just this one and appeared just very recently. Could it be some kind of a bug in Excel or the problem lies somewhere else?

My Excel version is: Microsoft® Excel® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2211 Build 16.0.15831.20098) 64-bit

Thanks in advance!

Looks like it is not only me. To be hones I gave up on this problem a long time ago, seems there won't be any comments from MS side..

It seems that this issue is not related to Excel itself but rather to your keyboard settings.

You can try resetting your keyboard settings to default by following these steps:

    1. Press the Windows key + I to open Settings.
    2. Click on Time & Language.
    3. Click on Language from the left pane.
    4. Under “Preferred languages”, click on your language and then click on Options.
    5. Scroll down and click on “Add a keyboard”.
    6. Select your keyboard layout and then click on “Remove”.
    7. Re-add your keyboard layout.

If resetting your keyboard settings doesn’t work, you can try resetting Excel’s default keyboard shortcuts by following these steps:

    1. Right-click an empty part of the ribbon and choose “Customize the Ribbon”.
    2. On the resulting dialog, click “Keyboard Shortcuts - Customize”.
    3. On the second dialog, click “Reset All”.

    I hope this helps!

      Thanks for looking into this!

Unfortunately, resetting Windows keyboard had no effect.

For resetting default Excel shortcuts it was a bit unclear, as I don't find "Keyboard Shortcuts - Customize" options after going into "Customize Ribbon".

Could you navigate me further? Thanks!

I understand that you're experiencing an issue where typing the letter "ö" using the US International keyboard layout's right Alt+P (or right Alt+O) combination is causing Excel to delete the content of the cell. This issue might be related to specific keyboard settings or shortcuts within Excel. Here are some additional steps you can try:

        1. Check Keyboard Settings:
        • Ensure that your keyboard layout is correctly set to "US International." Sometimes, changes in keyboard layouts or settings can lead to unexpected behavior.
        1. Keyboard Shortcut Conflict:
        • It is possible that there is a conflict between the "Alt+P" (or "Alt+O") keyboard shortcut in Excel and the input method for typing "ö." Try the following steps to check for and resolve shortcut conflicts:
          • In Excel, go to the "File" tab.
          • Select "Options" to open the Excel Options dialog box.
          • In the Excel Options dialog box, click on "Customize Ribbon" in the left pane.
          • In the right pane, click on "Keyboard Shortcuts: Customize."
          • In the "Categories" section, select "All Commands."
          • Look for "P" (or "O") commands in the list and see if any are associated with the "Alt" key.
          • If you find any, you can change or remove those shortcuts to prevent conflicts.
        1. Excel Add-ins or Macros:
        • Check if any Excel add-ins or macros might be causing this behavior. Sometimes, third-party add-ins or macros can interfere with keyboard input.
        1. Update or Repair Office:
        • Ensure that you have the latest updates installed for Office 365. Sometimes, updating or repairing Office can resolve unexpected behavior.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be a specific problem with the interaction between your keyboard layout and Excel. In such cases, it could be a temporary bug, which I think Microsoft will already have noted (I am guessing since I am not a Microsoft employee). Otherwise, I am at my wits' end. The text was created with the help of AI.

        Hope this will help you.

Same here. I also can't find the "Keyboard Shortcuts: Customize." option...

There are none. I guess they just silently removed it and forgot to update a million of help pages and AI databases to sync with it.

It's only ribbon and commands (as icons and text) and at the bottom there are settings, that's it. NO BUTTON CUSTOMIZATION.
