Today, Data Exposed goes live on LearnTV and at Data Platform Summit. Every 4 weeks, we’ll do a News Update. We’ll include product updates, videos, blogs, etc. as well as upcoming events and things to look out for. If you missed the episode, you can find them all at https://aka.ms/AzureSQLYT. This month we’ll recap all the updates and announcements in the database space since August.
You can read this blog to get all the updates and references mentioned in the show. Here’s the September 2022 update:
By the way, this was a special episode, because it also was a session at the Data Platform Summit. If you missed the live stream, you won’t want to miss the recording: https://aka.ms/AzureSQLYT. Here are some of the references from our awesome guests:

Product updates
Let’s start with the general availability announcements for Azure SQL. Azure SQL Managed Instance released Windows Authentication support with Azure Active Directory and Kerberos, including details on how to set it up. For SQL Managed Instance and SQL Database, you can now leverage an assignment of a server or instance identity with user-assigned managed identity in Azure Active Directory. Finally, for Azure SQL Database Hyperscale, zone redundancy is now fully supported, similar to other service tiers, more details here.
We’ve also had some relatively big announcements in the public preview space, starting with expanded support to standard editions of SQL Server 2019 with link feature for Azure SQL Managed Instance! This is a great one that can help you use SQL Managed Instance for disaster recovery (and even migration). Along the lines of migration, you can now improve your migrations experience with resumable database restore on Azure SQL Managed Instance. Niko Neugebauer came on the show to tell us a little more about what this means for your migrations with Long Replay Service (LRS), Azure Data Studio, and Azure Database Migration Service.
Last but certainly not least, in the security space, automatic key rotation for customer managed keys (CMK) in Azure SQL Database and SQL Managed Instance was announced in public preview. This feature simplifies key management responsibilities for customers.

Starting in 2022 we’re trying to keep you updated on what’s going on with other database services at Microsoft, as we understand that oftentimes you’re using more than one service. Here are the updates I gathered from August 2022.
