Password Manager PIN reset

Windows 11 device
Microsoft Edge browser
Prompted for a 6-digit Microsoft Password Manager PIN
The PIN is different from the Windows Hello PIN
"Forgot PIN" directs you to Edge > Settings > Passwords > Change Microsoft Password Manager PIN
No option to change or reset the Password Manager PIN appears in Edge Settings.

I am trying to add a passkey to my online account for gaming. It prompted my to input my 6-digit PIN which is different than my Microsoft Hello 4-digit PIN. I cannot find the settings for the password manager PIN.

  • The PIN requested for synced passkeys can be different from Windows Hello, so resetting your Windows sign-in PIN is not the appropriate first step. Microsoft documents a Password Manager PIN reset from a device that already has access to the stored passkeys. On that device, open the same personal Microsoft-account profile in Edge, then Settings, Passwords and autofill, Microsoft Password Manager, and its Settings page. Look for the PIN-reset control there rather than only on the general passwords page. If it is missing, update Edge and confirm that you are using the original profile and a device with existing passkey access. Microsoft documents a maximum of ten unlocking attempts, so avoid guessing repeatedly. Do not delete the profile or reset synchronization as an experiment. If no eligible device is available, use the gaming account’s existing alternative sign-in method and ask Microsoft support about passkey recovery.
