My Laptop Doesn't Connect to the External Monitor after the Latest Windows 11 Update as of date 16.02.2023
The system does not install these updates even though I have tried many times. It just goes into a "retry" loop.

- ismailulusoyCopper ContributorI have solved my problem.
Solution: Bios > Config > Thunderbolt (TM) 3 >
Thunderbolt BIOS Assist Mode [Enabled]
Security Level [User Authoriezed] (Default for me)
Support in Pre Boot Environment:
Thunderbolt (TM) device [Enabled]
How I found (Solution Steps):
I saw critical warning message on my product's webpage: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/tr/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-carbon-6th-gen-type-20kh-20kg/solutions/ht508988
1) I've tried only Intel Thunderbolt software solution (uninstall, install) and that didn't help.
2) I've skipped Lenovo Vantage solution just because I don't need that software most of the time.
3) I saw "Firmware install requires that the Intel Thunderbolt IO Controller must be enabled in BIOS." on the same page. I thought latest Windows Update or Optional Updates caused some critical problems in Bios (like compatibility issues etc.) so I opened BIOS and changed some settings which I gave above.
That's it. I hope this helps who face this problem.
By the way, thanks for your effort to help me: Mark_Albin- SAMRERNGCopper Contributor
ismailulusoy You're me savior!
I had confronted the problem that the extended VGA monitor (through type C hub) didn't display when I updated to Windows 11.
For my laptop, I change the setting "Security Level to be [User Authoriezed] " and it works.
PS. My laptop's BIOS has no other settings
Thank you a lot

I would try the following.
Check your connections: Make sure that your monitor is correctly connected to your laptop and that both the power cable and the display cable are securely plugged in. If you're using a VGA or HDMI cable, try unplugging it and plugging it back in to ensure a proper connection.
Check your display settings: Make sure that your laptop is set to use the external monitor as its display. To do this, right-click on your desktop and select "Display Settings." Under "Multiple Displays," ensure that "Extend desktop" is selected.
Update your graphics driver: Make sure that your graphics driver is up-to-date. You can do this by going to the manufacturer's website and downloading the latest driver for your graphics card. Once downloaded, install the driver and then restart your computer.
Try a different cable: If you're using a VGA or HDMI cable, try using a different one to see if that resolves the issue.
Use the Project feature: Windows 11 includes a feature called "Project," which allows you to project your laptop screen onto an external display. To access this feature, press the Windows key + P. From there, you can select the display mode you want to use.
Restart your computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix connectivity issues between your laptop and the external display.
Use the "Detect" feature: If your laptop is not recognizing the external monitor, try using the "Detect" feature in the Display Settings. To do this, right-click on your desktop and select "Display Settings." Scroll down to the "Multiple Displays" section, and click on the "Detect" button. This will force Windows to look for any connected displays and may help to resolve the issue.
Check for Windows updates: Make sure that your laptop is up-to-date with the latest Windows updates. To do this, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and click on "Check for updates." If there are any updates available, install them and then restart your computer.
Use a different display adapter: If you're using a display adapter, such as a USB-C to HDMI adapter, try using a different one to see if that resolves the issue.
Use the manufacturer's display software: Some laptop manufacturers include their own display software that may be more compatible with their hardware. Check to see if your laptop manufacturer offers any display software, and try using it to connect to your external monitor.
Check your display and laptop compatibility: Make sure that your external monitor is compatible with your laptop's graphics card, and that it supports the display resolution that you're trying to use. You can check the compatibility of your laptop and external display by consulting their user manuals or by contacting the manufacturer.
If none of these steps work, you may need to contact the manufacturer of your laptop or the external monitor for further assistance. It's also possible that the latest Windows 11 update has introduced a bug or compatibility issue, in which case you may need to wait for a future update or patch to be released.I hope this helps.
- perchanceCopper Contributor[2nd solution] Hello! I'm aware this is a year old but I have a similar model and faced the same issue after a new update and it not detecting external display and also solved it, thought this may be helpful to anyone coming here in future as well:
> first unplug hdmi cable off the laptop
> restart the laptop / or shut down then turn it on
> plug hdmi back to the laptop
> it should now detect the monitor
this may even work with other laptops too facing the same issue. hope this helps - farleyduhaa7Copper ContributorYou can consider restoring your system to a point before the update:
1. Search for Create a restore point and open it.
2. Select System Restore and follow the prompts to restore to an earlier point. - AmppintCopper ContributorIf all else fails and the problem persists, you may eventually need to perform a fresh installation of Windows 11. Make sure to back up all your data first if you choose this option.

If the problem started after a specific update, you might want to roll it back:
Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update history.
Click on Uninstall updates and find the recent update causing issues. Select it and click Uninstall. - CfkioCopper Contributor
If you recently installed the update and are experiencing issues, performing a system restore to a point before the update may help:
Right-click the Start button and select Run.
Type rstrui and press Enter to open the System Restore utility.
Follow the on-screen instructions to restore to a previous state.
