How can I upgrade to Windows 11 on AMD cpu from Windows 10?

A DIY PC build on 2018. The cpu is AMD Athlon 200 GE processor, 8GB RAM DDR4, ADATA 256GB SSD and a built-in graphics card. I double checked the update section in settings and there is no option for windows 11 upgrade.

I read a few post online and they were saying the processor is not supported by Windows 11 and there is no TPM 2.0. How can I upgrade to Windows 11 on AMD cpu from Windows 10?

Registry Bypass edits the Windows registry to bypass Windows 11 hardware checks, fixing upgrade failures on AMD devices with unmet TPM/Secure Boot/CPU requirements. This tool-free method enables upgrade to windows 11 on a AMD processor—a common workaround for older AMD devices, with changes taking effect during installation.

How to upgrade to windows 11 on a AMD processor

    1. Create an official Windows 11 USB installer, boot your AMD device from it and enter the installation screen.
    2. When seeing "This PC cannot run Windows 11", press Shift+F10, type regedit and open Registry Editor.
    3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup, create a new key named LabConfig.
    4. In LabConfig, make three DWORD (32-bit) values: BypassTPMCheck, BypassSecureBootCheck, BypassCPUCheck, set all to 1.
    5. Close the editor and CMD, click back then Next to skip checks and install.

    Disadvantages

    • Exact registry operation is required; beginners may fail or damage the system by mistake.
    • AMD devices may have stability issuesand non-functional Win11 features.
    • Disabled TPM/Secure Boot weakens system security, increasing malware attack risks.

The AMD Athlon 200GE is officially unsupported for Windows 11 because it is based on the older "Zen" architecture (Raven Ridge).

However, since your PC was built in 2018, it is likely that your hardware does support the security features (TPM 2.0) but they are simply disabled in your BIOS.

You can try to upgrade to Windows 11 by enabling these settings and using a small "bypass".

Step 1: Enable TPM 2.0, and Secure Boot

The Athlon 200GE has a built-in firmware TPM (called fTPM). To enable it:

-Enter BIOS:Restart your PC and repeatedly press the Del or F2 key.

-Find fTPM:Look for a tab called Advanced, Security, or Computing. Look for AMD fTPM configuration and set it to Enabled or Firmware TPM.

-Enable Secure Boot:Look for the Boot tab, find Secure Boot, and ensure it is Enabled.

-Save and Exit:Press F10 to save.

Step 2: Use the "Rufus" Method

Since your CPU is not on the official list, the standard Windows Update will block you. You can try the easiest and most reliable way to bypass this is using a free tool called Rufus.

Download the Windows 11 ISO: Go to the office microscoft download page and download the "Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO)".

Download Rufus: Get the latest version from its website.

Prepare a USB Drive: Plug in a USB drive (at least 8GB).

    Configure Rufus:

-Select your USB drive under Device.

-Select the Windows 11 ISO you just downloaded under Boot selection.

-Click START. A popup will appear with "Windows User Experience" options.

-Check the box: "Remove requirement for 4GB+ RAM, Secure Boot and TPM 2.0".

             - Check the box: "Remove requirement for an online Microsoft account" (optional).

    Run the Upgrade:

-Once the USB is ready, do not restart your computer.

-Open the USB drive in File Explorer while still in Windows 10 and double-click setup.exe.

-Follow the prompts. It will now ignore the fact that your CPU isn't officially supported.

Using a clean install is highly recommended if you are going to upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11 on AMD processor. This approach offers several advantages:

Why a Clean Install is Beneficial When Upgrading Windows 10 to Windows 11 on AMD Processor

    • Ensures Compatibility: Windows 11 has specific hardware requirements, including TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot support. A clean install helps confirm that your AMD-based system fully meets these requirements, reducing upgrade issues.
    • Improves System Stability and Performance: Over time, Windows 10 can accumulate unnecessary files, background applications, and settings. A clean install removes these, providing a fresh start for your upgraded system.
    • Reduces Software Conflicts and Bugs: Upgrading Windows 10 to Windows 11 on AMD processor over an existing installation might carry over existing software conflicts or bugs. A clean install minimizes these risks.
    • Optimizes Hardware Drivers: With a clean install, you can install the latest drivers optimized for Windows 11 and your AMD hardware, ensuring better performance and stability.

    Step-by-Step Safe Upgrade Path:

If you absolutely must have Windows 11:

    1. Backup everything (use Macrium Reflect Free for system image)

    2. Update BIOS to latest version (check motherboard manufacturer)

    3. Enable all possible security features in BIOS

    4. Create Windows 11 USB with Rufus (with requirements removed)

    5. Do a clean install (not upgrade) to avoid upgrade issues

    6. Install AMD chipset drivers from AMD website (choose Windows 11)

    7. Test for 2 weeks before considering it "stable"

To upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11 on AMD processor, you've identified the core problem accurately about. Your AMD Athlon 200 GE (released 2018) is NOT on Microsoft's official supported CPU list for Windows 11. This is why you don't see the upgrade option. Here's the reality and your options:

The Hard Truth About Your Hardware

    Your AMD Athlon 200 GE:

    • Architecture: Zen (first generation)
    • TPM: No integrated fTPM 2.0 (only TPM 1.2)
    • Official status: Unsupported by Microsoft
    • Why: Microsoft only supports Zen+ (2000 series) and newer for Ryzen, and your Athlon is Zen-based

Recommed: Stay on Windows 10, not upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11 on AMD processor.

    • Until October 14, 2025, Windows 10 still receives security updates. That's 21 months from now.
    • Pros: Stable, compatible, secure until 2025
    • Cons: Eventual forced upgrade/replacement

    If you choose this path:

Maximize Windows 10 performance (clean install)

Plan to upgrade hardware by 2025

Use this time to save for a supported CPU/motherboard

If you want to upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11 on an AMD processor, you can do this by using the official Windows 11 ISO file. This method allows you to perform an in-place upgrade, which means you keep your files and applications while moving to the newer OS.

    Here's how it works:

    1. Download the Windows 11 ISO File

    • First, go to the official Microsoft website and download the Windows 11 ISO file. This ISO is a disk image that contains the Windows 11 installation files.

    2. Create a Bootable USB Drive

    • You can create a bootable USB using tools, but for an upgrade, you often just mount the ISO directly within Windows.

    3. Start the Upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11 on AMD processor

    • If you're running Windows 10, locate the ISO file you downloaded.
    • Right-click on the ISO and select Mount to assign it a virtual drive letter.
    • Open the mounted drive and run the setup.exe file.

    4. Begin the Installation

    • Follow the on-screen prompts.
    • When the installer checks your hardware, it may initially block the upgrade because your AMD processor is not officially supported for Windows 11.

    5. Bypass Hardware Checks

    • To proceed, you can modify the registry during setup to bypass the TPM 2.0 and CPU checks. This involves pressing Shift + F10 to open Command Prompt, then typing regedit and editing the registry as previously described.
    • Alternatively, some users modify the ISO to bypass these checks permanently, but this is more advanced.

    6. Complete the Upgrade

    • After bypassing the checks, continue with the installation process.
    • Windows 11 will be installed over your existing Windows 10 system, preserving your files and apps.
