SharePoint/Excel - This content presents a potential security issue. Do you trust this content?
Since this morning several client versions of excel that have a pointing to sharepoint (our tenant) give the following message; does this happen to anyone else?

- heathertoddCopper ContributorThey've extended the fault to cover all office apps. I've just had an email from my support ticket
"I am writing to inform you about the update regarding the security warning prompt issue when opening files. This issue has now been updated to include all Office apps, and an update will be deployed on Tuesday, August 13th, 2024." - RobinStemmersCopper Contributor
- RobinStemmersCopper ContributorIt seems to be on PowerPoint too
- heathertoddCopper ContributorI've had a reply for the support ticket I raised yesterday and they've extended the notification to all office apps

- susmitaneupaneCopper ContributorWell, found a solution that worked for couple of users being impacted. Add Trusted Site via group policy Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer > Internet Control Panel > Security page > Site to Zone Assignment List Site: https://**********/sites/* Value: 2 Hope this helps!!
- Thank you; however, I would like a Microsoft-side resolution.

A necessary short-term fix for a separate issue was recently implemented, causing users to receive a security warning prompt when opening Excel, PowerPoint, or Word files in SharePoint Online.
Current status
Aug 1, 2024, 2:07 AM GMT+8
After reviewing the service telemetry, we've determined that the security warning prompt is the result of a necessary short-term fix for a separate issue that was recently implemented. We're creating a long-term fix for this separate issue that’ll remove the need for this false security warning prompt, remediating impact. We expect that it will complete development and deploy on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. To suppress the warning for trusted sites, tenants can add the trusted sites and hostnames in the internet zones feature.

- PeterBlakeCopper ContributorI am having this same issue. I am not sure when it began since I was OOO for a couple of days this week
- jdonovanCopper ContributorMy users are getting it when opening something through Outlook - anyone else hearing/seeing that?
- Our users only on excel

micheleariis We are also getting this error message in SharePoint for Word files when we open them in the app. Are there any updates yet?
- heathertoddCopper Contributorjust tried a doc and xls in outlook and yes as soon as i chose to open with desktop app it gives that error.
The support call I raised with MS after a bit of "have you tried" suggestions from them I explained again that their incidents ref OD843843 and SP843810 are misleading as they only mention excel.
The response I received was -
"After reviewing the service incident code you provided, I confirmed that it indeed points to an issue with Excel and so does the service incident code SP843810. When I reached out to our backend team, they informed me that they are currently checking all Office apps to identify any other affected applications. Please note that this incident has not yet been updated on the service health tracker."
- joriswillemseCopper ContributorSame issue with us. Did some testing, opening in web versions of the MS Office apps is no issue, nor is downloading the files to the local harddisk and then opening from there.
Issue is only happening when opening out of Teams or OneDrive, so from the online resource into the locally installed apps. Tested with Word, Excel and Powerpoint files, all with the same warning message.- heathertoddCopper ContributorIts a bit annoying MS incident only mentions excel. I hope they're aware that it is also word files too. I've tried to express this in my incident that i have reported this morning. a few people experiencing it with other files not just excel
- heathertoddCopper ContributorExperiencing this with word documents too. Viewing the doc in teams channel and selecting "edit in desktop app" and the error pops up then.
- Hi, from word I haven't had any reports yet; before taking corrective action I would like to see if Microsoft will fix it automatically.
- heathertoddCopper ContributorYep, I've logged a report advising that we are experiencing the issue with word docs. And just advising our service desk in case any end users ring in. Im waiting too rather than take any action regards changing our trusted sites.

micheleariis, we started having the same problem today. This fixed it for me:
Control Panel > Internet Options > Security Tab > Trusted Sites > Click Sites > Enter https://mycompanyname.sharepoint.com with mycompanyname being whatever your sharepoint subdomain is. Mine had mycompanyname-files.shaepoint.com and mycompanyname-myfiles.sharepoint.com but not the normal one. That fixed it for me.

We are also facing the same issue and not resolved so far
Waiting for Microsoft team to work urgently on the fix- gerhardbothaCopper ContributorI opened an Excel sheet, clicked on "file", "account", "update options" and then "update now". After I restarted the computer it worked. Not sure if this is the "professional" way, but it worked for me.
- SJP4272Copper ContributorIt worked!! Thank you for this!

Your fix in the Internet Options > Trusted Sites > add site of https://companyname.sharepoint.com worked for me too! Thank you!
