External user email notifications when sharing a site
Hi , I'm trying to share a 0365 harePoint Online team site with an external user (the site collection is enabled for sharing etc) when I click 'Share' I get the usual pop share box where I enter the user's email address and then SharePoint tells me it's an external address etc, i fill in the mesage box and choose a permission for the user and click on 'share'
Instead of the usual pop up notification that says I have shared the site with Joe Bloggs I get a notification box saying 'Shared with external users' and there's no notification email in my Outlook in box and the user does not receive the shared email either. When I check the Access and Requests settings I can see the pending request in 'External User Invitations'. The same problem happens when I tested fwith the same user on anther site and other users from the same organisation as the user having problems have accessed the same sites and had email notifications. Would it be a problem with this users individual account?

Hi Kevin,
There are a few factors that may be contributing to the issue you are facing.
First, if you are sharing the team site with a new external user (i.e. they have never been shared with from your tenant before), SPO will send an external sharing invitaiton. These mails are not CC'd to the sharer (note: we are building this feature soon) which is why you did not receive a notification in your inbox.
Second, we recently made a change to send mails from Exchange Online Protection (no-reply@sharepointonline.com) instead of from our previous address ("Microsoft Online Services"). Please have the recipient check their junk mail folder and, if they have it enabled, their "Clutter" inbox.
If you continue to have issues, please let me know so we can investigate further. Thanks!

StephenRice Hi, you mentioned that the sharer will be CC's when they share a site with externals. Is it possible to disable being CC'd. For example, if I share with an external, I also receive the notification but I accidently click the accept invite link and therefore I have accepetd on behalf of the person(s) I have shared the site with. So does this mean that the person I have shared with is not able to accept since I have already done so (by accident)?
Cheers

Hi Damien Flood,
No, the shared with user will be good to go. When we built the CC feature for external sharing invitations, we also did a little work to make sure that if the sharer (i.e. you) clicks on the invitation link, they will just get redirected to the document without accepting the invitation. If you run into any issues with this, let me know. Thanks!

Hi Stephen, it was very bizarre, I tried everything but the user was still not getting the share email, I tried doing the same thing from an 0365 Group and the user received the shared email group invite as a guest. In the end my fellow sharepoint admin tried sharing the classic site to the same user from Chrome and it worked, so whether or not there was a weird browser cache thing going on? I was using IE 11.
Cheers

Thanks Kevin. If your fellow admin shared to them normally, did the e-mail go through? And have you experienced this problem with any other e-mail addresses or just this one? Thanks!
- KevinEganCopper Contributoryes, not there. the email notification itself doesnt seem to be generated

Did the user check his junk mail folder?
- Microsoft is doing changes in the way files and folders are shared in ODFB and SPO and I have found some weird issues that are known by Microsoft so that could also be your case

Which changes? Can you share them, please?
