External user email notifications when sharing a site
Hi Kevin,
There are a few factors that may be contributing to the issue you are facing.
First, if you are sharing the team site with a new external user (i.e. they have never been shared with from your tenant before), SPO will send an external sharing invitaiton. These mails are not CC'd to the sharer (note: we are building this feature soon) which is why you did not receive a notification in your inbox.
Second, we recently made a change to send mails from Exchange Online Protection (no-reply@sharepointonline.com) instead of from our previous address ("Microsoft Online Services"). Please have the recipient check their junk mail folder and, if they have it enabled, their "Clutter" inbox.
If you continue to have issues, please let me know so we can investigate further. Thanks!

StephenRice Hi, you mentioned that the sharer will be CC's when they share a site with externals. Is it possible to disable being CC'd. For example, if I share with an external, I also receive the notification but I accidently click the accept invite link and therefore I have accepetd on behalf of the person(s) I have shared the site with. So does this mean that the person I have shared with is not able to accept since I have already done so (by accident)?

Hi Damien Flood,
No, the shared with user will be good to go. When we built the CC feature for external sharing invitations, we also did a little work to make sure that if the sharer (i.e. you) clicks on the invitation link, they will just get redirected to the document without accepting the invitation. If you run into any issues with this, let me know. Thanks!

Hi StephenRice,
Thanks for the explaination.
In the Access Requests section of the teamsite I am sharing I can see in the history that the request (sent to external) was accepted by me.

Hi Stephen, it was very bizarre, I tried everything but the user was still not getting the share email, I tried doing the same thing from an 0365 Group and the user received the shared email group invite as a guest. In the end my fellow sharepoint admin tried sharing the classic site to the same user from Chrome and it worked, so whether or not there was a weird browser cache thing going on? I was using IE 11.
Cheers

Thanks Kevin. If your fellow admin shared to them normally, did the e-mail go through? And have you experienced this problem with any other e-mail addresses or just this one? Thanks!- KevinEganNov 29, 2016Copper ContributorYeah, the email went through from my colleague , the only difference was she was using Chrome on a Mac and I was in IE 11 on Windows 7 :-) must be a browser cache or something?
