Outlook Search not showing Recent Emails (December-2021)
Hi All,
The outlook search option stopped working properly after WIndows10 update.
The issue has happened after installing a security update from Windows (December 14, 2021—KB5008212).
I had tried re-building the Indexing but it was same. Once the issue started I had searched for the solutions and finally found that recent Windows update has created the issue. I had uninstalled that particular update and the search issue was fixed.
So let us know when the fix will be available for this bug?

- LBMalwareCopper ContributorHi, I'm just writing this comment to try and help.
In my case I have solved the problem simply by doing a "Rebuild Index" in Outlook.
In any case, if the problem is not solved, it would be necessary to simply uninstall the Windows Update for which this error occurs. This update is KB5008212.
Once the previous steps have been carried out, the system should be restarted.
Once this is done, everything should work correctly !- DumiduGamageCopper Contributorwe done same things, but after two three days same matter
- pedromarinheiroCopper ContributorYou rebuild index and that's OK for the moment.
Will index until the day you rebuild, after it will not index new emails.
Turnaround:
1. uninstall KB5008212
2. OR Stop Windows Search service (net stop wsearch), close outlook and reopen, will display the remaining number of indexing emails.
3. STOP automatically updates. It's embarrassing the number of issues of the last year of windows 10 update and office Apps (the bug of big contacts and no scroll in to/cc fields)
Are MS sure we are not ALL at windows insider fast ring program??? - thira7Copper ContributorI don't know why? But 8 couldn't uninstall this update!
Also, when i did it, i realised that know it got worse the search index unfortunately and it shows me (my work pc, win32 bit, outlook 2007) 2016 emails
I am just waiting
P.S Although some pcs (newer) react a little bit different (better) to the search- pedromarinheiroCopper Contributor1. "I don't know why? But 8 couldn't uninstall this update!"

To uninstall Windows 10 update using Command Prompt, use these steps:
Open Windows Search.
Type cmd.
Select “Command Prompt” in the results.
Click on Run as an administrator.
Enter the following command after replacing the KB ID:
uninstall: wusa /uninstall /kb:[id]
For example, if you want to remove KB5001330, use the command uninstall: wusa /uninstall /kb:5001330
Type “Y” when asked to restart the PC and finish the uninstallation.
2. How do you realize/measure search index got worse after removing the infamous KB5008212 update ?
It will index the outlook items vs no indexing!

I have also noticed this problem and I have not solved it by simply creating a new index and not even scanning each PST archive or importing the content to a new PST. All of this is not resolved even after updating Office before performing the operations. The problem recurs after a few days. I have handled dozens of reports from clients and colleagues. Hope for an update soon

There is a new recent issue affecting Windows Desktop Search in Outlook. The issue is mostly seen after installing this Windows 10 update kb5008212 and possibly this Windows 11 update kb5008215.
The Outlook and Windows Teams are investigating the issue. We posted this Known Issue for awareness, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/outlook-search-not-showing-recent-emails-after-windows-update-kb5008212-cc5345cf-8007-403a-bb23-f3818653c2df.
A reboot and restart of Outlook might be a short-term mitigation. I have also seen users say that open Task Manager, Services, locate Windows Search, right click, Restart it. Then restart Outlook also mitigates for that session.
I'll post back when I know what the fix will be.
- Nick ClarkeCopper ContributorI've been experiencing the same issue on a PC running Windows 10 Home, updating to 21H2 resolved the issue without having to do anything more apart from a re-boot

Just found this :
In Windows, right-click Start, and then select Run. In the Open: box type regedit and then click OK. This will open the registry editor.
Find this subkey in the registry and then click it:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows
Click Edit > New > Key, and name the new key Windows Search.
Select the new Windows Search key.
Click Edit > New > DWORD Value.
Type PreventIndexingOutlook for the name of the DWORD, and then press Enter.
Right-click PreventIndexingOutlook, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 1 to enable the registry entry, and then click OK.
Exit Registry Editor, and then restart Outlook.

Saw this on bleepingcomputer too. This search takes about 30 seconds on SSD drives for average sized PST files. But setting the PreventIndexingOutlook key is an easy work-a-round.
The Outlook product manager needs to take this opportunity to have an independent functioning index in Outlook in case windows search breaks again in the future. I wish they did it like Thunderbird.
- pedromarinheiroCopper Contributor" But setting the PreventIndexingOutlook key is an easy work-a-round." but very slow for big PST files.
The best way thats worked for me, without removing the KB5008212 is stopping windows search service
net stop "wsearch"
close outlook and reopen it.
The Windows search will start working again and start indexing the recent emails from last indexing rebuild / last stop of wsearch

t’s quite easy to fix, but it may not work for everyone. One of the most common reasons for Outlook is not searching all emails is the indexing function in Windows computer.
- Perform an SFC scan
- Run Outlook in Safe Mode
- Rebuild the Index
- Perform a system restore
- Configure indexing options.
These methods listed above should get your Outlook back in order. For more in-depth knowledge on Outlook errors, you can https://www.thewindowsclub.com/instant-search-box-missing-in-outlook.

The workaround works, but searches in Outlook become VERY SLOW. Unfortunately, this doesn't work for me. Thank you nevertheless for the link.
And @Microsoft: please fix the problem QUICKLY
- zpropstCopper ContributorI am having the exact same issue. I am having to rebuild the index every morning for 10 computers every morning to keep functioning. NEED A SOLUTION ASAP.
