Outlook.com account a folder appeared and there is no option to delete it

This folder appeared out of nowhere a week or so ago. I didn't create it and there's no option to delete it. Any ideas?

So you'll never believe the fix. The problem was 'server side'. Under the settings for Outlook web, I changed the language to something other than English, then back and the folder disappeared. Tech support first had me jump through a bunch of hoops and said to contact them the next day using a reference number if the problem persisted. It did, and after getting through to tier 2, they wanted to remotely connect to my PC. I refused and asked them what they would do remotely that I couldn't do myself. After a lot of back and forth, the rep said, change the language to something other than English, then back. Once I did that. The folder disappeared.

  • It's not a normal name for a default folder, but that is what it appears to be - or so the server thinks - that is what you it or rename it.  Do you also sync the account with a smart phone? It's possible the phone created it and the correct name did not sync over. Antispam and other add-ins will also create folders.

If you have classic Outlook, you could use mfcmapi to delete it (or hide it). Instructions for mfcmapi -How to Hide or Delete Outlook's Default Folders  - I would try deleting it first and see if it comes back.

Otherwise, contact support and ask them to delete it. You need to use the chat system (can request a call back if you have a subscription). See this article for support options available:

      Hi Diane,

I thought I had replied to your post, but I no longer see my response.

I'm using Outlook on Android, PC, and Mac, all syncing the same account. On Android, the 64378 folder doesn’t appear. On PC (Outlook in Office 2024 LTSC Preview), the folder kept reappearing after deletion, but a hard delete (Shift+Delete) finally removed it. MFCMAPI was great, thanks for that. The 64378 folder wasn’t under IPM_SUBTREE, likely because the hard delete worked. I haven’t checked the Mac yet.

I looked into support options you listed, but they all seem to require an Outlook 365 subscription, which feels unnecessary since this appears to be a server-side issue with Outlook.com.

I am not chatting with a support rep through the outlook web.

      Hello,

I have Outlook installed on an Android phone, syncing with my account, but the folder doesn't show up there. I also have Outlook as part of Office 2024 LTSC Preview Plus on both Mac and PC. On the PC version of Outlook, the folder would always reappear right after I deleted it. However, using a hard delete (Shift+Delete) removed it.

MFCMAPI looks really cool, by the way, thanks for that. I installed it and ran it on the PC with Outlook 2024. The folder doesn't appear under IPM_SUBTREE, most likely because the hard delete removed it.

I’ve checked all the support options, but every solution seems to point to purchasing an Outlook 365 subscription, which seems odd since the issue is with my Outlook.com account. Even if I didn't use Office or Outlook software at all, the problem would still exist.

  • It seems you're on the browser, can you try another brower using incognito? See if it is there still?

Hi, thanks. Same problem. I've Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and Edge in incognito (private mode) and regular mode after clearing all cache and cookies. I've even tried fresh profiles. The folder is there and the option to delete it is not.

Do you have access to Outlook desktop? If so, you could try launching and setting up a profle and see if you can delete it that way. I've seen some corrupt folders only viewed in desktop Outlook and if it's really bad, there is a software tool to remove it. It's been years since I needed to use it but could find it for you.
