Attachment storage contain spam attachments
Hi Community,
I was searching for a specific attachment and I noticed that there was attachments that were a part of spam/phishing emails readily available to open.
I usually delete emails in my junk folder and I would of thought everything to do with it would have been filtered out and permanently erased.
Is this normal behaviour?
Regards,
Darren

It is not normal behavior for attachments from spam or phishing emails to be readily available to open in your email client, especially if you have deleted emails from your junk folder. In most email systems, deleted emails from the junk folder should be moved to the "Deleted Items" or "Trash" folder and eventually permanently deleted after a set period.
Here are some steps you can take to address this issue:
- Empty the "Deleted Items" or "Trash" Folder: Check if there are any items in your "Deleted Items" or "Trash" folder and make sure to permanently delete them. Some email clients have a "Recover Deleted Items" option where items are stored temporarily before being permanently deleted.
- Check for Rules or Filters: Review any email rules or filters you have set up in your email client. It is possible that a rule is moving certain emails or attachments to a different folder or location.
- Update Security Settings: Ensure that your email security settings are up to date. Most email providers have built-in spam filters that automatically detect and move spam or phishing emails to the junk folder. Review your email provider's documentation for information on how to adjust these settings.
- Scan for Malware: Run a thorough antivirus and antimalware scan on your device. Sometimes, malware can interfere with email behavior.
- Check Email Configuration: Ensure that your email client is properly configured to work with your email provider's spam filtering system. In some cases, misconfigured email clients may not handle spam properly.
It is essential to take security seriously and promptly address any issues related to spam, phishing, or suspicious email attachments to protect your information and reduce the risk of potential threats.
