It sounds like your students are in a different tenant all together. The only way to fix it would be to create the students in the same tenant and add the domain to the same tenant so their e-mails / logins use the other domain. But since they both have the same parent domain you would think they are in the same tenant?
Are the students and the Teachers both listed under the same user list in the admin center, or do your admins have to go to two seperate locations to manage the users?
