Issue setting up Teams free version

Hello,

we are trying to set up the free version of MS Teams for communication between an external service provider and us (internal IT department).

When we try to set up teams, we always get the message that Teams have already been set up for our company. This also happens with the newly created Microsoft account.
But that can't be the case, because we are still using Office 2013 and don't have an active Office subscription.
Is it still possible to set this up with a business email? Or is recognized by our domain, that someone is using Teams without knowledge of the IT department?
Thanks for your help in advance.

  • Hi ZIM_IT

It is possible that someone signed up to a trial previously at some point in time and added your domain to the account. This could have been for testing and evaluation of the service. It is a very common issue to have especially where previous admins have evaluated and left the business - at least here in the UK.

If you don’t have access to it, you would need to contact Microsoft support in the country you are in. You can do this by phone, or online. You will need to confirm and prove that you own the domain and Microsoft should remove it from the old account so you can use it in the new one.

    Hope that answers your question

    Best, Chris
