Mar 22, 2020Is Teams the right recommendation for this person
A friend of mine started his own small business and started doing classes to teach people more about it. I recomended to him to do remote meetings during the COVID crisis but want to be sure Teams is the right recommendation.
I've only worked with Teams within my org at MS so I'm not sure how it works for those without a "plan". If he pays for a plan, I know he can invite people without Teams who can watch via the webapp or download teams. However I was wondering if they still get access to the file storage, video recordings and Teams channels portion of the features. Or do people who don't have Teams only have access to the live meeting?
Hi,
He can invite externals as guests, but there is an license limitation. There is no Teams license required for Teams guests but since they are using Azure AD there are a 1:5 ratio for guests, so for each license you buy you can invite 5 guests.

The guests can be member of a Team and read chats and files in the Team.

so guest access applies to free users too? I wasn't sure if guest meant they also pay for a license but just not part of your org.
Thank you this was very helpful.
KatHobson89 you can have guests in the Teams free version to and then there is no license restriction to think about since it is free for up to 300 users. But there is no meeting scheduling or meeting recording in Teams free version.
