If I made a mistake? Teams ask me if to replace or copy my file when uploading

Hi community,

Help.

I have shared one same file to different Teams group, and Teams showing up "same file in folder, if you want replace or copy, balabala" . I don't know the difference between these two option, so I simply selected "Replace" all the way, not knowing what the result of this.

Now I am wondering will other team's updates overwrite others? I mean, when I open the file in Teams A group chat, will I only got to see the last updated version, which is actually updated by Team B?

If yes, it will be a disaster, as I just want them to view it, comment it separately and the file to be kept separately as well!

JohnnyRxy does anyone know if there's a way to get the original file back if you clicked "replace" by accident??

Yes, chat files are stored in your OneDrive under "My files > Microsoft Teams chat files".
Select your file, then "Version history".

rfavini Hi, it did not work for me, my old file is not there. Do you have any other idea? 😞

  • JohnnyRxy If these are group chats (rather than Teams) and each time you chose replace then one copy of the file will be stored in your OneDrive in a folder called Teams Chat Files. Each time you chose replace you will have overwritten the previous file with a new one, and everyone will be accessing the more recently updated file.

If you had chosen Copy you would have had a separate version for each time you shared the file, the files names would be xxxx_copy1.xxx etc.

I don't really see which is best, I would prefer to have all the comments in one file that I can then work through and address, having multiple files with potentially contradictory comments doesn't really help much.
