How to add a Poll to a Shared Channel

I am trying to add a poll to a shared channel and every app I try to add is greyed out and says it is not allowed in a Shared Channel.  Can anyone tell me if this is something that can be changed?  Or am I stuck not being able to do a poll to a cross-functional team that uses a Shared Channel instead of a full team?

Thanks all for the responses.  We were hoping to get in line results for everyone to see.  So, we decided to use a Loop Voting component.  Not the prettiest solution but allows us to keep people in teams and show results in real time.

  • Unfortunately, apps (including Polls, Forms, and third-party integrations) are not supported in Shared Channels in Microsoft Teams at this time. This is a Microsoft limitation, and there is currently no setting to override it.

Workarounds for Running a Poll in a Shared Channel
While apps are not supported, here are some alternative methods to collect votes:

    Use a Microsoft Forms Link

    • Create a poll in Microsoft Forms (forms.microsoft.com)
    • Copy the link to the form
    • Paste the link in the Shared Channel and ask members to vote

🔹 Pros: Simple, works for internal and external users
🔹 Cons: Not as seamless as a built-in Teams poll

    2. Use a Message-Based Voting System

    • Post a question in the Shared Channel
    • Ask members to react using emojis (e.g., 👍 for Yes, ❌ for No)

    🔹 Pros: Quick and easy
🔹 Cons: No anonymity, limited to basic polls

    3. Host the Poll in a Standard Channel or Team Chat

    • If the Shared Channel members are part of a regular Team or Chat, create the poll there
    • Share a link to the poll in the Shared Channel

🔹 Pros: Allows Forms/Polls app integration
🔹 Cons: Requires users to switch channels to vote

  • Just make a form and put the url to the website app. Or put it in the channel message.
