File Sharing Microsoft Teams

I'm the IT consultant on company and a customer have an issue with and Excel file, this is a shared file and very often happens that the file is modify by different users and the modification is not saved for all the user, the users have to go to SharePoint and check the previous versions of the file to get the updated one, this is something related to the fact that the file was not created on the MS Teams, it was uploaded or is related to the fact that the users modify the file in their local app of Microsoft 365 in each computer?

 Thanks for your support.

  • ghernandez2022 It's usually caused because they are using their own downloaded copy and save over the existing copy. Or they do not use "Autosave" feature and have it open for extended periods and then manually save their copy over someone elses.

Either way, def. someone not utilizing co-authoring features of todays modern tools. Need to make sure they are using Auto-Save so they are working "Live" on documents, or use browser versions to edit, especially higher traffic documents.

I know some people just work in their ways, and it's hard to change but that is most likely your issue going on, someone in the bunch and you should be able to tell who based on history of saves to see who wiped stuff out and educate them on how to properly work in documents in a coauthored environment, or follow up and make sure they don't have auto-save off etc or some other issue going on.

How are they opening the file? Everyone tend to have to open it from the same location. It can't sit on a desktop and be shared.
When local Excel opens the file, does it show that sync is enabled?

According to the users they use the file online (not true), i take this recommendations and get in touch with the customer to find a better solution, thank you.
  • Also saving in Teams vs. SharePoint has no effect on this issue, since Teams uses SharePoint to save the documents.

Thank you for the reply, I will make sure they all use the file the same way, you know the users works the way they want and not the way they should.
