Non Profit Step 3 does not work
Hi, I tried to create an non profit account but I got stuck in step 3 the verification with SMS/Call. It does not work on two different computers with different browsers and I also tried 4 different phone numbers. Can you help me here?

Hi. I am the second person in our non-profit organisation that tried several timeds but can't pass through step 3 in the registration process. As seen in the posts this is a problem since three months back! How is it possible this is not fixed?

You may have seen my earlier post - try waiting a few minutes after you receive the code, to give it time to update in the system. That's how we were able to get in!

A solution: Wait a few minutes before entering the code.
I wish I were kidding. I put in a ticket, and the next day Support called me and had me go through the registration process while we were on the phone. When I got to step 3, he asked if I had received the code. I confirmed I had. He told me to wait a few minutes. We wait in silence. Then he says, "That code should work now." Lo and behold, I enter the code and it works. I ask him if he did anything on his end. He says no, just that the system needs a few minutes to update on the back end before you enter a code. I suggested through gritted teeth that perhaps they should not send the code until it's ready, or update the back end so it makes the codes valid more quickly. Who knows if they will actually do it. - Leslie_Robbins
Microsoft
Hi everyone, just a quick heads up - if you're still experiencing technical issues, please report them via the U.S. Contact Us page (technical issues can be reported at the bottom of the page per the screenshot provided below). Even if a ticket was opened on 01/29/25, it helps the Tech Team to know about any ongoing problems so they can resolve them. Hope this helps!

Same here today. Anything I could do to get the code? I am located in Hong Kong.

Same here as yesterday and today.
Used 2 different phone numbers, one of them has never been used for anything Microsoft related. Different browsers as well.

Hi CoreyC,
What type of phones are you using. Unfortunately, if the phones you are using are VOIP or Landlines, then you will not receive the SMS message required to complete the registration to verify your phone number. If that is not the case, can you please tell me more about if there are any error codes that appeared while you were attempting to register. You will need to create a ticket with Nonprofit Support regarding registration. You can do so at https://nonprofit.microsoft.com/contactus. If you have created a support ticket already, please message me so I can help further assist you with escalating the matter.

It got resolved after several back and forths with tech support through tickets. They said it was "a bug"...

Any updates on this? I submitted a support ticket. Got no response. Can't look up ticket status. Still can't register as a non-profit.
- KramCopper Contributor
Still not working here. Even after submitting a help ticket.

I've opened a ticket and got a response. The information in the ticket is just like "have you tried turning it off and on again".
I'm not sure why but today I got the confirmation SMS when I used Google Chrome.
In the phone number field i entered my mobile number without any leading signs or zeros.I hope that helps anyone.

Thank you. Now I was also able to finish the registration.

Hello everyone,
I wanted to check in and see if anyone has been able to open a support ticket regarding this matter. Please let me know. We are also reaching out internally to gain more insight into the cause of this issue. Thank you for your continued patience as we work to resolve it.

It is April and I just tried registering my non-profit yesterday and the step 3 is still broken. There are different posts on this dating back to November.
Surely somebody at Microsoft is responsible for maintaining this form?
I am a business customer of M365 as well and am raising a support ticket that way but the support agent I am dealing with is very confused by the whole situation. One issue is that my business and non-profit are different entities but the only way to contact support is if you already have a business M365 account! The whole situation is so frustrating, can somebody at Microsoft please escalate this so the relevant responsible engineer can be found and the page fixed.
Also I have only tried registering with a regular cell phone number, not VOIP or landline.

I just ran into the same problem - I can't believe this is still an issue. Tried with three different cell numbers, not VOIP or landlines, still got the "incorrect verification code" error. I hope they fix this soon!

This is not "solved." I had a lengthy exchange with Microsoft Support and they determined the issue is being caused by VOIP numbers not being supported. Of the two numbers I tried to use for verification; one was a VOIP number and the other was a landline, neither of them worked. The technician I was working with, who was great by the way, escalated me to his supervisor but the supervisor only regurgitated what was already told to me. I'm still waiting on a resolution.

Hi Kram,
Thank you for your response. I'm not sure why the system is marking this discussion as solved. Nevertheless, I don't have visibility into the backend, but does your landline allows SMS messages? I'm wondering if that could be the case. Do you have a mobile number you can try?

Tiffany, we're still unable to successfully register our non-profit and haven't gotten any response from Support. Is there a way to look up the status of our support ticket?

Having the same problem here. Stuck on step #3. Multiple different numbers on multiple different computers don't receive a verification.
