Question for small nonprofits
If you work for a small (5-20 people) nonprofit or charity organisation, what types of information are you capturing using Excel spreadsheets (or paper)? This might include your volunteers, program participants, donors, assets, clients, etc. What other data are you managing? Have you tried finding off-the-shelf solutions to help you with managing it?MattBurrFeb 10, 2025Iron Contributor87Views0likes2CommentsNon Profit Step 3 does not work

Hello. I work at a small charity and I’m trying to determine which version of Dynamics is suitable for us. I can’t find any clear information as to the differences between the different versions and which might be best for us. Our main areas of focus are: Service user details - e.g. name, address, membership number, medical issues, etc. Case details - each user could have many cases (such as dealing with a landlord, or pension issues), with each case having many contacts at different dates. Activities - many different activities, with many instances of each one (like twice weekly badminton). We would be able to find an SU, click on their details, pull up a list of their cases past and present, add additional contact details to their case for each contact we have with them, say how long the contact was, and how much was charged. Also, see what clubs/activities they’ve attended and when. We want a weekly/monthly calendar view booking system for reception to book SU contacts/appointments. In the future, we might want to have it available on the internet for SUs to book a slot themselves. For each instance of an activity, record who came, who paid a fee (if there was one). Be able to apply various tags to each SU (e.g. volunteer, paid member, daycare user), so we can have a list at a glance and be able to run reports on just those people. Running reports to see who did what activity, when they did it, who did what activity, how many case contacts we had between two dates, how much money was generated, etc. would be great. We are not focused on dealing with individual donors or fundraising, but we are interested in keeping a list of grant applications we’ve submitted and what money we’ve received from them, if any. Our charity has a very limited budget, so the system would be designed and put together by myself. My questions are: Which version of Dynamics is best for us? Will it be free from MS, or do we have to apply for some kind of grant? We are already registered as a nonprofit with MS. Will MS give us Dynamics so we can produce our own software, or do we have to do it though a Partner? If with a Partner, does it cost money? We're a small charity with a very small budget, so can't afford to spend big money on things, unfortunately. Many thanks.SolvedJimmy-CCCJan 24, 2025Copper Contributor586Views0likes6CommentsPricing to have one user with Microsoft Access
We are a small non-profit that has just been approved for the Microsoft Non-Profit program. We need one computer to have Microsoft Access for our library database. We are having trouble interpreting the pricing. Can we pay for only ONE user to have Access or do we have to pay the fee for every user even though they won't be using it? If we are charged for every user, we are going to need to reconsider this program as it will be much more expensive than the Microsoft business account we currently use. Is there someone in this forum who can help?MarionPetersonJan 21, 2025Copper Contributor34Views0likes1CommentWill Microsoft’s Fundraising Template App Be Supported Long-Term?
Since Microsoft retired the Fundraising and Engagement app, they’ve introduced template apps for partners and customers to build solutions. Over the past year, we did lot of customizations on top of the Fundraising and Engagement app, and we’re now considering moving these customizations and needed functionality to the ‘Fundraising’ template app. However, we’re concerned about long-term stability. Can Microsoft confirm if there’s any risk of these templates being retired or delisted? This would help us and others plan with greater confidence.141Views3likes3CommentsSave the Date: Global Nonprofit Leaders Summit in 2025

I discovered the hard way that there are two versions of Volunteer Management out there. They look very similar, but the way they denote Volunteers in Contacts is different: in one, the picklist column (field) Primary Constituent Type [msnfp_PrimaryConstituentType] is set to 'Volunteer'; in the other, the Y/N column Volunteer [msnfp_volunteer] is set to 'Y'. Both columns exist in the nfp version of Contacts. Forms and Views set up for one approach obviously won't work for the other. The version of Volunteer Management that is currently (11/24) installed by Cloud Solution Manager uses the 'Y/N' method. The other is (I suspect) what got installed earlier in '24 when I first installed NonProfit Accelerator and asked to include the sample apps. Both showed up in my list of apps, including in mobile. My initial reaction: D'oh! Doesn't a Unified Constituent approach suggest that the method should be the same across all apps, and not a one-off in this app? I can see advantages to both...but... My rec: if you combine the latest VolMgmt with any other Dynamics/Dataverse-based app, either write a flow that also sets the Constituent type, or pay close attention to your filters when you view or report around your Contacts. Sigh. ps: if I'm right about the sample app, has it been updated more recently for consistency? thxStewC_bffDec 06, 2024Copper Contributor66Views0likes3CommentsThe Innovation for Social Good Program
In an era where technology and innovation are essential catalysts for social transformation, the Elate Child Initiative (ECI) is excited to present and seek partnership to implement the Innovation for Social Good Program, a pioneering initiative designed to empower young adults to create impactful, tech-driven solutions that address critical social issues within their communities. Inspired by the successful format of Big Brother Naija, a live reality TV show in Africa. This innovative, live televised program combines competition, hands-on mentorship, and real-world technology application to empower talented young adults from diverse backgrounds to raise awareness, innovate and address pressing social issues. Our program aims to inspire innovation, foster collaboration, and raise awareness around pressing community challenges, particularly in health, education, technology, environment, and social equity. Through a rigorous 6-month journey, participants will receive mentorship, training, and resources, allowing them to develop and present practical solutions to social problems. This unique platform engages both participants and a broader audience, promoting the potential of technology and innovation as tools for social good.TersurAteyoNov 26, 2024Copper Contributor34Views0likes0CommentsMicrosoft 365 Backup - Azure Grant
Hi, I'm working for a small non-profit here in the UK, and they've recently received the Azure $2000 grant. Does anyone know if the grant can be used with Microsoft 365 Backup provided through Microsoft Syntex. It says you need an Azure subscription for the pay-as-you-go billing, but it doesn't appear on the list of Azure services.
