Outlook app on iphone with IOS 10 - black screen
Morning all,
A number of our users have reported problems with the Outlook app on iPhone running iOS 10 (specifically 10.0.2, but could be other versions of 10 as well). When they launch the Outlook app the iPhone screen goes black and a wait spinning circle is displayed, a hard power off is then required. I have seen this reported on Apple forums and whilst it has been reported with other apps than Outlook it does seem to be more frequent with the Outlook app.
In our case one of the users in question is running the following:
- iPhone 6+ and iphone 6
- iOS 10.0.2
- Office365 mailbox hosted online with Exchange
- AD FS federated authentication
Thanks,
Paul

It appears that that this was a known issue to Microsoft and an update to the Outlook client for iOS has resolved the problem.
Frustrating that the MS Tech Community wasn't informed, it reduces the benefit of having a community backed by Microsoft if it is not being monitored and updated.
The fix reports in the App store as follows - sorry can't find any release notes for this version to link to.

Hi
I have faced identical scenario whereby few users of mine have reported
outlook app for iphone goes to white and closing on its own after few seconds.
version installed for outlook 2.39
and ios version 10.3
checked space available is nearly 2gb. But wondering is it could be due to user mailbox is 30gb on office365.
awaiting reply.

Paul,
I haven't seen these exact symptoms but I don't have your exact environment either.
I have seen the Outlook app 'glitch' sometimes on 10.0.3 to the black screen with the spinner icon, but never on startup & it always comes back. Not helpful to you.
Does the problem occur if the user opens another iOS O365 app first and authenticates, before opening Outlook?
My first thought would be to troubleshoot if it's a timeout issue with federation that's causing the app to sulk.
Gotta love intemittant problems!

Latest update and response to points from Sonia Cuff
- One of the iPhone 6 devices has been upgraded to iOS 10.1 which was released last week, this doesn't appear to make any material difference.
- The version of the Outlook app is v2.5.6
- End user support observe that the problem is not isolated to Outlook or other Microsoft apps but is also apparent on other third-party apps (phew)
Our thoughts are to swap out the device for a iPhone 6 / 6S running iOS 9.x or iPhone 7.0. Still interested in other peoples experience

Love the phew!
With my experience of the iPhone 7 on iOS 10, I'd stick with your first option of trying an ealier iOS.
Guessing Apple doesn't give us an easy way to roll back an iOS update?
