Microsoft Places Analytics - Missing data
Hi!
I'm looking to hear if anyone has succesfully configured Microsoft Places Analytics according to the guidelines here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/places/places-analytics
I've reached out to Microsoft Support several months ago regarding this but the case has not progressed at all unfortunately when it comes to actually reaching a solution.
I'm struggling to get enough data to show even though the following is OK:
- All buildings have analytics enabled
- The name of the building matches the attribute "Office Location" in Entra ID.
- A mail-enabled security group is used for assigning permissions to Places Analytics (as-per the requirements).
- All users of the above group have Teams Premium
I'm mostly focusing on the building analytics here since that one is most interesting for us. Example of charts with missing or incomplete data:
The above one shows nothing even though it should be fetched from the work location in conjuction with the leader's organisation data.
In the above chart it's succesfully mapping the headcount of the number of people that have set their work plan with a chosen building, however it's completely ignoring the "remote" parts. Also ignoring the people that have no work plan set but do have the same Office location as the building name - which it should fetch from according to the "?" button:
It's even more clear further down in the same "?":
In my case it's ONLY showing the ones with a work plan set and with the actual building in question set.
It's the same type of issue for most of the data but I believe that solving it on one end will solve the rest. So I'm really hoping there's someone else out there that has succesfully configured Places Analytics and might shed some light on what my configuration might be missing.
Thanks!

Update from the 23th of May 2025. I was contacted by Microsoft in my ongoing case regarding this. I was told that Microsoft had identified a bug that could've cause this. They've implemented a fix that could take 2 weeks to propegate.
If the issue is still present after 2 weeks I'm supposed to create a new case. I'll leave this thread open and see how it goes.

Update 13th of August 2025:
The headcount per leader is now also correctly associating the office in conjuction with the manager field. Previously it showed incorrect (higher) numbers since it didn't combine these fields. (We had separate admin accounts with the manager field set which ruined the actual statistics).
Analyze Building occupancy no longer shows the below error. However the Desk pool analytics seem broken still:

Update 4th of July 2025:
The analytics seems to be working a lot better now:
- Headcount is fetched correctly
- Leader adoption rate is working (albeit with issues displaying Å, Ä, Ö but I've made a report regarding this)
There is still something iffy with the "Attendance from work plan declaration" since a banner is still shown:

I've had similar problems since around December I think. Analytics worked when I was testing Places and setting it up but just as we planned to launch, it stopped working. We launched regardless but still no change.
I have had an open case with Microsoft since then but to be frank their support has not been helpful. I'm not being intentionally mean, I have had no useful responses from them to date.
All of our buildings are enabled for analytics and I have a mail enabled security group set to have analytics enabled in which I am a member. I have rooms and desks actively in use but apparently no data. We have Teams Premium licenses assigned to all users so am meeting all of the requirements listed in the Places documentation.
Except, I found this article in the Places documentation https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/places/desk-pool-analytics which says that analytics isn't available on desk pools with <10 desk capacity which explains my issue, at least in part, as none of my desk pools have 10 or more desks.

Interesting to hear. We were not apart of the Places preview but instead started implementing it after it went live to production.
Ah, I rememember reading about that as well (regarding desk pools with <10 desks). We don't have large desk pools either, I'm fine with not having detailed analytics for those but it still doesn't explain the missing data on the rest of the stuff 😟
I've had the same experience (unfortunately) with the support regarding this case in particular as well. I'm due to have a call/meeting with them (hopefully this week), so I'll update here if I get any more information.
At least we're not alone in this issue and I can stop second-guessing my own configuration 😄

Exacly the same issue.
The same applies to room analytics; half of the data is missing.

Interesting, have you enabled analytics on all (or at least some) of your buildings? And made sure the building names matches the field "Office Location" in Entra? Those thnigs - as well as having permissions assigned to Places Analytics only with a mail-enabled group with Teams Premium members - are the pre-requisities according to Microsoft.
I've had a case with them since several months back but it was recently closed, they asked me to create a case to Teams Support instead which I'm now waiting for a response on.

I’m starting to set up places in my company, and I’m encountering the same issue with many graphs showing 'No data available for this view'.
I’ll follow this thread to see if a solution is found.
