Message Center - Weekly Digest Update

The Office 365 Message Center helps admins stay aware of new applications, powerful features, and changes in the environment. Communications are available directly in the Admin Center, accessible through the admin mobile app, and can be consumed through the Service Communication API.

Notifications are also summarized in a Weekly Digest email that is now available to all admins set to First Release! 100% of FR admins are set to receive the Weekly Digest within the next week. Standard Release for all the remaining admins will begin in September.

Also, while we were making updates to the functionality, we removed the Alternate Email field and added space for a second address in the customizable field.

By using one of the email addresses to direct copies of the messages to either an Office 365 Group or a Team... where as many users as you want can read the digest.

Love to see the increase in communications, but by Microsoft's own guidance (and standard good security practice) we severely limit the number of users granted admin permissions in our tenant, and advise our clients to do the same. There are more people in large orgs that need this information other than just admins!

I'm a SharePoint admin in my clients tenant and I don't have the ability to subscribe to the weekly digest from their message center. Is this expected behavior? Any plans to change this limitation?

        Hi Dean,

I believe that the Weekly Digest mail is available to global admins only at this time. We are working on a Message Center role that will provide access to the Message Center, Weekly Digest, and Major Updates mails, and we expect this to be available in early 2018.

However, my recommendation is to have the global admin configure the Weekly Digest to be delivered to an Office 365 Group. It is then easy to add or remove users from that Group without having to change admin center permissions or Message Center settings.

To quote a wise man: "Non-admins are people too" And we want to ensure that people have access to the information they need, whether they have admin permissions or not.

Tony's recommendation is my favorite approach. Use the customizable field to enter the email address for a Group so that everyone who is a member of the group receives the weekly digest. Alternatively, you can use a standard DL or user's email address.

However, there is still a known challenge when someone receives the Weekly Digest mail and clicks a link to learn more. They are directed back into the Message Center and may not have permissions. If this is the scenario you're encountering, I guess you'll just have to attend or pay attention to Ignite :)

If anyone is up for a little challenge, I am hoping to see a Flow that takes Message Center communications, puts them into Planner, and assigns the task to an individual for follow up.
