Mac OS 26.7 and M365 Office Applications- upload block errors only on Office applications.

Mac OS 26.7 and M365 Office Applications- upload block errors only on Office applications.

When making changes to an Office document like Excel &/or Word using M365 E5 license since September 19th, I have been getting a message stating "Upload blocked" in autosave, the file is being saved to a OneDrive connected services which has a capacity of 5 tb, having a total of about 860,000 items, about 3.2 TB, but the selected items to sync from the OneDrive application is about 180,000. This happens sporadically to only Office application files such as MS Word and Excel. The syncs in the bar menu of OneDrive all show sync and backed up with no errors.

As per MS a M365 SharePoint library can hold 30 million items, and view is limited to 5000 items, and I have such libraries with about 20,000 items and I can access them online and have set views to show items in lists less than 5000.

MS also states that OneDrive Business can sync up to 300,000 items only even if the capacity is 5 TB and the number of total items cannot exceed 300,000 items.

(1)     Does anyone know why a OneDrive storage which leases 5tb storage space can only keep 300,000 items, for it to function? (It’s pointless to lease 5tb and be restricted by number of items).

(2)     Sync is working for PDFs and screenshots but only Office applications are having problems syncing at times or saving with autosave with versions. When I researched with CoPilot Premium running several terminal commands it concluded it is a MS Office bug and MS Support cannot solve the problem despite opening several tickets. The agents as L1 will scope, then it goes to the backend team called “ Escalations” but there remains no solution for crippled services since past 11 days. OneDrive sync logs were provided as well as requested but no followup.

(3)     If these are hard limitations on M365 to save maximum of only 300,000 items has anyone considered any other cloud services to replace OneDrive for Business?

Has anyone else experienced this in the past? Can anyone offer a solution for this? If OneDrive office applications are dysfunctional then how does one operate AI agents or any automation.

Any questions please ask. Thank you.

(i just left you a reply and darn it never got saved or ?)

I sincerely appreciate your response- some light at the end of the tunnel or the cliff- you are my rock star for the day. Thank you!!!!!

But i do have a follow up questions:

    (1) The office application files are the only one showing this "Upload block error" The climb in file counts did not go up all of a sudden- may be a 100 more on 19th and it was working fine till the 18th and then it showed up with these allergic reactions. Till yesterday with the count total count same and only 180k selected to sync from OneDrive app settings it is works for some office files and does the total count still create these sporadic allergic reactions? This is the part which confuses me- i am not syncing all of them only 180k. I want to clear this out as i wonder if it is MS Office problem only and even having a million option i may be circling back- how can i determine that professor?

    (2) I have a M4 Max with 128 gb RAM, 16 cores and 2tb hard drive- i suspect that is enough ammunition to get into the ring- how do i get into the insider ring now- any sign-up option- i am the admin. The article you cited with a link does not provide the information. October 15th is two weeks away.

    (3)  i did see an article which stated that the 1M option was released for Windows earlier in April 2026 i think. I do have Parallels running on the same device too- but the article stated no VMs - not sure if Parallels counts as a pure VM - it is running on the Mac with no cloud element like VM Ware or Windows 365.

Would really appreciate a response to the above 3 questions. Cheers and thanks a ton.

Thank you appreciate your response and some light at the end of the tunnel or the unexpected cliff. Sincerely appreciate the hope.

But if out of 860k only 180k are being selected to sync is this a problem i am facing with only Office applications and not PDFs or screenshots - every thing goes up but MS Word and Excel and those also go up sometimes or behave in some sporadic manner. The climb to 860K did not happen overnight and its been working till September 19th when it expressed this Upload blocked error in Word and Excel - working on till 18th with maybe a maximum of 20 file increase and then it got allergic reactions.

Lastly, how do i sign up for Insiders ring users- i am ready for ring: "OneDrive sync on macOS will increase its item limit from 300,000 to 1 million per device, starting with a Public Preview in mid-October 2026 for Insiders ring users."

The device is a M4 Max Pro with 128 gb ram and 16 cores and 2tb hard drive- i suspect my ammunition is sufficient.

Cheers and again you are my rock star for the day! I had already set up a meeting with Box.com for this afternoon and i am excited to say in the ring of M365 with your response.

Are there any rewards for you i can present.
